The Tyrone Lady Eagles Softball Team plays its first scrimmage of the season today at home vs. Moshannon Valley at 4:30 pm. The girls will scrimmage again on Saturday at Windber, and the official season opener is next Tuesday vs. Penns Valley.
Many Tyrone players and coaches train year-round and have been working hard throughout the off-season to prepare for the spring season.
The Lady Eagles wouldn’t be the team they are without their coaches. The hours the coaches have dedicated to the team and girls in the offseason is unmatched and something for which every player is grateful.
The head coach is Tyrone alum Hillary Soellner. She will be assisted by Joe Laukaitis and volunteer assistants Jason Rockwell, Jeff McNelis, Frank Germino, Art Foglemen, and Travis Brodzina.
The coaches do more than just teach them about the game. They give valuable advice and create a safe environment for each player.
Soellner is looking forward to the season and has high expectations for the team.
“I think we are going to have a strong season,” Soellner said. “Overall, we are still a very young team, but we have a lot of experience returning as well. I think our team will get along well and that will be a big contributing factor to our success.”
The Lady Eagles will strive to win a district championship this year but acknowledge that small, simple steps will be required to get there.
Softball is a mental sport, and players need to have a good mindset and attitude to be successful.
The best softball and baseball players in the world have average batting averages around .250, so players cannot expect to get hits every at bat or make plays every game.
The best thing the Lady Eagles can do this season is to play with a positive attitude and give it their all every chance they get.
The seniors for the 2025 season are Sam Shaw, Alayna Greene, and Layna Dibert.
The rest of the team hopes to give these seniors a season they can remember and are excited to experience the season with them.
The juniors include Allison McNelis, Grace Naylor, Amariah Sprankle. Sopomores are Aubrey Biter, Hannah Cramer, Madison Harper, Kaylee Little, Teagan Sharer, Lucy Fogelman, and Kaitlyn Rockwell. The freshmen are Jayden Albright, Lilian Ammennan, Madelyn Haines, Sage Harris, Genevieve Naylor, Sophia Raneri, and Chloe Rogers.
