The Tyrone boys basketball junior varsity team finished the season with a 10-7 record, losing many close games.
With nine varsity seniors graduating this year, including four starters, the junior varsity players must step up for next season, as several of them will move into varsity roles.
“We’re losing a lot of our scoring production this year, so next year, we will need to step up,” junior Brayden Parsons said.
The leading scorers for JV were Ben Walk, who averaged 14 points; Carter Gwinn, who was second with 11 points per game; and Brayden Parsons, who was third with 6.
The JV’s best game of the year was against Bellwood in the Backyard Brawl rivalry. Everybody shot well from the field; it was their best game for three-point shooting in the season.
Some teams were really good in Junior Varsity and were hard to beat. For example, Bishop Guilfoyle, Hollidaysburg, State College, and Williamsport were all games that were not very close in the box score.
“The JV team had a vast improvement on defense from last year to this year. Moving forward, our guys need to develop their skills in the off-season and get more comfortable running our offenses,” JV coach Joe Laukaitis said
It will take a lot of hard work to make a push next year and make it far in the postseason.
Many other teams have their star players coming back, especially Forest Hills and Bishop Guilfoyle.
These two teams made it far in the postseason with good records, so the Tyrone JV players must step up their game in the offseason to stay competitive in the Laurel Highlands conference.
