Tyrone is Triumphant on Pink Night, Winning 3-2
Bellefonte and Tyrone girls were neck and neck winning every other set, until the end when Tyrone pulled through and won the game. Bellefonte won the first set 25-11 and the third set 25-14. Tyrone won the second set 25-16 and finished off by winning the fourth set 26-24 and the last set 15-12 .
Pregame, some of the girls decorated the gym for their pink night. A banner was hung that said, “There is a ‘can’ in CANcer because we CAN beat it.” Earlier that day, the girls sold ace cards at lunches in order to raise money. Overall, $550 was raised for breast cancer awareness.
Parents also contributed to this special night by making baked goods to sell.
“It was an exciting experience because this was my first year playing at the pink game and we won. I am also proud that we won against Bellefonte because I wasn’t at the game earlier in the season, so I wanted to contribute,” freshman Brianna Foy stated.
Earlier in the season, Bellefonte won in 5 sets and came to Tyrone with confidence. Taking them to 5 sets again, Tyrone won.
Once again junior Torrie Foy led the team in digs. She acquired 12 points in digs and junior Emily Fusco was 2 behind with 10 digs. Defense and offense brought the team towards the win. Overall, 38 digs and 19 kills were made.
Junior Lea Crofcheck was a great all around player. Crofcheck had 15 assists, 1 kill, 1 ace, 2 blocks, and 8 digs. Within her 15 assists, she helped out senior Maddie Veit in obtaining 8 kills and Fusco in obtaining 5.
The sets that were won consisted of various serving points. Throughout the whole game, 11 aces were made. Foy also led in serving with 5 aces thorughout the game.
“We may not have acted like a team on the court, but our minds were set to win,” said freshman Logan Johnston.
After a tough 5 sets, the Lady Eagles came out on top. You could see the girls were stoked that they won, especially on their pink night because of their screams and smiles.
