Tyrone Indoor Percussion and Colorguard Prepare for the 2017 Indoor Season
The 2017 Indoor Percussion Ensemble will be performing their 2017 show entitled The Cosmos. The show’s theme presents a journey through space.
There are 13 high school and middle school students in this year’s indoor drum line and pit percussion section for the 2017 season. For color guard, there are a total of five students. Both groups have been working hard to prepare for the 2017 indoor season.
Tyrone’s first performance is at home on February 25th, 2016 in the high school gym. Tyrone’s annual Indoor Show involves competitive performances by colorguard, Majorettes, Dance, and Percussion units from across the area. A total of 37 competitive groups from different schools will participate in the show. Both percussion and colorguard will perform to receive a score but no awards will be given because Tyrone is the host.
“Our shows have been very popular and well attended for years,” said TAHS Band Director David Hock.
Later they will travel to Windber (Moved to Huntington High School), Glendale, Westmont Hilltop, St. Mary’s, and Johnstown school districts for competition. The Chapter 11 Championships will be held in Tyrone on April 29th at the high school gymnasium.
Tyrone percussion will be competing in Scholastic A Stationary percussion and will be the only group in their group in chapter 11. The color guard will be competing in Scholastic Regional A Guard for the 2017 indoor season.
The units are placed either in the scholastic or independent groups. Scholastic groups belong to a school and involve only school aged students. The independent units do not associate with a specific school and can have members over the age of 18. Groups can also perform as stationary or marching. Tyrone will perform in the scholastic A class stationary group.
The Tyrone indoor percussion and color guard will also travel to the TIA Atlantic Coast Championships from May 3-7 in Wildwood New Jersey. The percussion will go up against five groups at the competition.
“The goal obviously is to hopefully win first place at you chapter championships and hopefully obtain a top spot at the Atlantic Coast Championships in Wildwood, NJ the first week in May,” said Hock.
