Fifty-one Indoor percussion, color guard, dance, and twirling teams competed in Tyrone on Saturday, February 22nd. This was one of the biggest indoor shows ever hosted at Tyrone.
As is customary for the host units in this event, Tyrone’s Indoor Units received a score and critique from the judges but do not participate in the placement for awards during the ceremony.

Tyrone Percussion scored 77.40 in this competition. This is an 8.6-point jump from their score of 68.80 in the Homer-Center preview show. Still early in the season, and their show is not fully complete yet. This means the percussion team performs the music they have and know to the best of their ability and grows as the season progresses.

Tyrone Colorguard also competed as the host unit in this competition, scoring 62.89. This was a 13.25-point jump from their score of 49.64 in the Homer-Center preview show. Colorguard is also adding and cleaning their show as the season progresses, meaning scores will continue to increase as the show grows toward completion.
The Star-Lite Independent units also competed in this competition. Since Star-Lite is an independent competitor, they received a placement during the award ceremony.

The Star-Lite Senior Twirlers scored 69.12, achieving a first-place win in the Independent A Class category. This is a 4.8-point jump from their previous score of 64.32 at the Homer-Center preview show.
The Star-Lite Junior Twirlers scored 72.86, taking home their first first-place win in the Independent Novice Class category. This is a 7.29-point jump from their previous score of 65.57, also at the Homer-Center preview show.

Both the Star-Lite Senior and Junior Twirling teams finished their shows and continued cleaning choreography since the preview show.
The Star-Lite Dance Team scored a 71.04, also taking home a first-place win in the Independent Novice Dance category. This is an 11.03-point increase from their previous score of 60.01 at the Homer Center preview show.
The Star-Liteteams also competed on Saturday.

Tyrone Band Director Dave Hock was the head of the organization and planning for this competition. Hock ensured the logistics of almost every detail of the competition, making sure everything went smoothly.
“I’m not sure I have a favorite thing, but I have an obsession with organizing things and making maps and charts,” Hock said.
Tropic-O-Ice was also featured at this competition, serving their gourmet shaved ice to the attendees during their “off-season.”
“I also like hosting the units in general. Hosting a show requires reserving and organizing all the spaces that the units need to use, ordering trophies, getting volunteers to help at all the locations, and inviting units to attend. We definitely couldn’t do this without help from all the parent volunteers who help organize the different stations.”
Tyrone Guard next competes at the Glendale competition on Saturday, March 15, and Percussion next competes at the Huntingdon competition on Saturday, March 22.
