Tyrone Girls Win Bellwood Invitational
Senior Chesney Saltsgiver was named the meet’s outstanding jumper.
The Tyrone girls track and field team excelled in the jumps, edging out a talented Central Cambria squad for the overall team championship at the Bellwood Invitational on Monday, May 3.
Tyrone topped 15 other teams at the annual event, beating second-place Central Cambria 116.2 to 104.25.
Tyrone’s Chesney Saltsgiver won both the long and triple jump and was named the meet’s outstanding jumper.
Reagan Irons won the high jump and placed third in the triple jump. Makenzie Latchford was second in the long jump and Natalie Saltsgiver was second in the high jump.
Tyrone was also strong in the sprints, middle distance events, and relays.
Chesney Salstsgiver and Makenzie Latchford finished second and third in the 100 dash.
In the 200 dash, Latchford finished third and Becca Lewis finished fifth.
The relay team of Chesney Saltsgiver, Mackenzie Latchford, Reagan Irons, and Natalie Saltsgiver won the 400 relay.
Sophomore Eliza Vance also set a personal record in her leg of the 1600 relay, which placed fourth. Vance ran with Marissa Lewis, Becca Lewis, and Stephanie Ramsey. The same four girls also placed fourth in the 3200 relay.
The Tyrone boys finished ninth in the team standings.
The top finishers for the boys were Jacob Johnson, first in the high jump, second in the long jump, and third in the triple jump.
Senior Garin Hoy placed second in the 3200 run.
The 3200 relay team finished in fourth place.
Hoy also placed sixth in the 1600 run, junior AJ Detwiler was sixth in the 800 run and senior Ian Imler was sixth in the 3200 run.
