The Tyrone Lady Eagles (10-9) defeated Bald Eagle (5-12) 47-37 on the road at Wingate on February 3, 2025.
Freshman Lola Woomer led the Lady Eagles with a game-high 22 points, while Junior Elise Volders was the second leading scorer for Tyrone with 7 points.
“I think we played well, handling all the emotions that happened towards the end of the game. We were able to stay under control and take home the win,” junior Elise Volders said.
The game started with Tyrone’s Brielle Parker hitting the first shot off a drive to the basket for the 2-0 lead.
Tyrone worked on their 1-3-1 defense, forcing Bald Eagle to take more outside shots and keeping Tyrone from getting in foul trouble early in the game. The Lady Eagles had an 8-point lead to end the first quarter, 15-7.
The Bald Eagles started the second quarter with a layup, determined to close the score gap.
Freshman Lola Woomer countered this with three three-point shots for Tyrone, making her the lead scorer of the first half. Tyrone went on a 10-0 run and held the Bald Eagles to 11 points in the second quarter, which ended 33-18, Tyrone.
The Lady Eagles came out strong in the second half with two layups from Freshman Lola Woomer and Junior Claire Lehman.
Bald Eagle’s many turnovers helped the Lady Eagles to gain possession and although the Bald Eagles won the quarter, Tyrone stayed in the lead, 39-27.
Bald Eagle scored the first points of the fourth quarter at the free throw line but Tyrone’s Lola Woomer and Olivia Newlin answered with two layups.
Both teams struggled with fouls in the fourth quarter and found themselves at the free-throw line multiple times.
As the clock started to wind down and Tyrone had a 15-point lead, they looked to move the ball and run the clock.
Tyrone held Bald Eagle to only 4 points in the last five minutes, with the final score being 47-34.
