The Tyrone/Bellwood girls tennis team improved to 5-3  after a home win against Chestnut Ridge on September 18.

Following a hard loss to Hollidaysburg on Monday, September 15 the team won both matches against Clearfield and Chestnut Ridge to get their record back into the win column.

The team now needs just one win to qualify for the district tournament.

“If we win the match on Tuesday, we win the Mountain League Conference,” said Randy Irvin, coach of the Tyrone/Bellwood girls and boys tennis teams, “then we can move on to win the District 6 team title.”

“[The team] faces tough competition this week playing central and Grier school at home and traveling to play Chestnut Ridge,” added Irvin.

As the team moves deeper into the season, coach Irvin believes that the team is working hard to improve every week and “barring any injuries.”

“I’m tired of losing when we get so close to the finals in districts, we want to finally win, especially since it’s my senior year!” said Tyrone senior Shannon Gearhart,  “Our team has a lot of good players that we didn’t have last year, and everyone has improved a lot. I think we actually have a good chance this year.”

The Lady Eagles will be in action again tonight vs. Central at home, Wednesday vs. Grier at home and Thursday vs. Chestnut Ridge on the road.
