Tyrone Girls Take Second in Annual Kiwanis Tournament

The Tyrone Lady Eagles claimed second place in the annual Kiwanis Tournament. The Lady Eagles defeated Tussey Mountain in game one on Thursday by a score of 67-37. Tyrone opened the game on fire as they jumped out to a early 14-4 lead.
Tyrone’s first quarter could not have been more dominant as they finished leading Tussey Mountain 22-10. Tyrone dominated the second quarter as well scoring 19 points and holding Tussey Mountain to 11. The first half came to a close with Tyrone winning 41-22.
Tyrone was lead by the pair of freshman Parker scored 13 and Ramsey scored 12. Their efforts paired along with senior Sydney Shaw who finished with 13 points was no match for the visiting Titans.
In the second half the Lady Eagles offense and defense played at the same level as the first half as they outscored Tussey Mountain in both the third and fourth quarter.
After the dominating performance the Lady Eagles defeated the weaker Titans 67-37 setting up a rematch with rival Bellwood as Tyrone looks to finish what they started the first game of the season.

Bellwood
Just like the first game of the season, the Lady Eagles were not intimidated by the 2018 state champs, but once agian, despite a tough effort the Lady Eagles fell short losing 50-47.
Tyrone’s effort was fueled by freshman Jaida Parker who finished one point shy of a double-double finishing with 9 points and 12 rebounds. Much like the first meeting Tyrone was leading after the first quarter by a score of 12-8.
Tyrone also got big games from freshman Stephanie Ramsey who finished the night with 16 points and Sydney Shaw who finished with 11.
The second quarter was a lot of back and forth but right at the end of the half Bellwood’s Emily Ledig hit a three pointer to give Bellwood the leading 20-19 going into the locker room.
Bellwood came out of the locker room with a new intensity as they went on a early 5-0 run early in the half with Alli Campbell hitting a three to break the 21-21 to give Bellwood the lead. The third quarter came to a close with Bellwood holding a 35-28 lead.
Tyrone was not about to go out without a fight they outscored the Lady Blue Devils 19-15 but the Blue Devils made just enough shots to outlast the Lady Eagles.
With the loss the Lady Eagles record fell to 4-3 on the season. The Lady Eagles look to get back on the winning track on Tuesday as they play Central Mountain in Tyrone.
