Tyrone Girls Soccer Drops to 3-6
The Lady Eagles came up short in each of this week’s games, dropping to 3-6 on the year. Though the results weren’t as hoped, the team found some positives in two of the losses as their play began to improve.
Bellefonte 6, Tyrone 0
It was clear on Tuesday that something was off for Tyrone. A slow start allowed Bellefonte to race to an early lead, and low morale afterwards allowed them maintain it for the remainder of the match, defeating the Lady Eagles 6-0.
BEA 1, Tyrone 0
Just as it was clear something was wrong earlier in the week, it was clear that something had changed on Thursday when Bald Eagle traveled to Tyrone. The girls looked energized, and, despite Bald Eagle scoring midway through the first half, played hard until the final whistle blew.
Freshman keeper Kelsey Johnson recorded 9 saves, keeping Tyrone in the game. While Tyrone’s attackers had ample opportunity and made numerous dangerous plays, they were unable to find the back of the net and Bald Eagle was able to hang on to their lead to win the game.
Hollidaysburg 3, Tyrone 1
While the scoreboard might not have reflected it, Tyrone played one of their best games of the season on Saturday when they hosted Hollidaysburg. Hollidaysburg went up 2-0 in the first half and found the net again in the second, but Tyrone had them on their heals the entire game, forcing their coach to make tactical changes throughout the game to counteract the onslaught that Tyrone’s attackers were bringing.
Even with the Tigers’ defensive tactics, Tyrone senior Audrey Bowser was able to score with only minutes left in the game. Johnson recorded an impressive 30 saves against Hollidaysburg’s talented attack.
Saturday also saw the return of Junior Tori Crabtree and Senior Captain Riean Minnich to the lineup for Tyrone.
After surpassing the halfway-point of the season, the team is looking for a spark to finish out the season on a high note and hopefully find success in the postseason. If they can consistently play with the high levels of intensity, heart, and confidence that were seen in the latter two games this week, those goals are certainly achievable.
