FFA students received a grant from Tractor Supply Company

Tractor Supply Company (TSC) and National FFA Foundation recently announced that the Tyrone Area FFA Chapter will receive a Tractor Supply Company Grant in the amount of $713 for their project Water Quality – Is It Safe?

The funds will be used to purchase Vernier probes to test Phosphates and Nitrates.  The equipment will help students to not only learn how water quality testing helps to rate our consumable water, but also apply this equipment to helping the environment through AgriScience Fair projects based on water quality indexing and the quality of the water for aquatic life.

Nitrate concentration, which can be increased by acidic rainfall, fertilizer runoff from fields, and plant or animal decay or waste, is an important parameter in nearly all water quality studies.

TSC and National FFA Foundation received many excellent project proposals and Tyrone Area FFA Chapter’s application was one of the best. With over $124,125 in requested funds and only $40,018 available to award, the selection process was extremely difficult as many states were underfunded.
