Tyrone FFA looks for new members

The Tyrone Area chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA) is currently seeking new members in grades 7-12.

Students interested in agriculture, natural resource industries, food and food science, business and technology in addition to production agriculture jobs are encouraged to apply to join the chapter.

“I am glad we have so many new members already!” said Shaye Loose, Tyrone FFA President.

The FFA teaches many skills that will help in student’s career path. Not only in agriculture, but in many other job as well. Learning to work together, having responsibilities, connecting with new people, and being a leader are just a few of the skills learned through FFA.

“I want every member to see that they can all be leaders,” said Loose.

The organization was founded in 1928 as Future Farmers of America. In 1988 the name was changed to the National FFA Organization. The FFA motto is “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve.”

One of the most recognizable symbols of FFA is the official FFA jacket.  FFA members earn metal pins that signify achievement within the organization. These pins can be placed on the front of the jacket.

FFA Career Development Event (CDE’s) are contests that members compete in to test their skills learned through agricultural education instruction. They vary at different levels of the FFA; some are competed in certain levels and certain states, districts, areas or federations.

The FFA has different activities and meetings you can go to every year which include the Fall Leadership Conference (FLC), ACE’s, WLC, and many more.

The FFA Advisor, Mrs. Tiffany Hoy, wants students to “find their own nitch [and] persue what they want [in FFA].”

To be an active member of the FFA students must have a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project. The project involves hands-on application of concepts and principles learned in the agricultural education classroom with guidelines for the SAE projects governed by the state FFA delegation.

Students who are interested in joining FFA, please see Mrs. Hoy, in room 131, or FFA President Shaye Loose for more information.
