Tyrone falls to Laurel Highland’s rival Richland
Tyrone suffered a hard-fought loss Tuesday in a Mountain League-Laurel Highlands match-up. They took a trip to Johnstown to face Richland, and quite the road trip must have affected the Golden Eagles because Tyrone just didn’t come out firing the way they usually do. They allowed \ too many easy lay-ups and weren’t hustling on defense.
To add to that, the press that they had planned on using to jump to an early lead just didn’t work. “Guys just weren’t hustling in the press, and it was as if there was no press at all from their perspective,” said sophomore Jacob Meredith.
After a half, Richland led Tyrone by a score of 39-25.
Tyrone went into the second half knowing that they had to hustle much more and get back on defense.
Although they came into the game slow, they restored their points production in the third quarter, but let too many buckets slip by.
Richland outscored Tyrone in the second half 41-35, which sealed the game. Tyrone definitely put up enough points to win, but allowed too many points to keep them in the contest.
In a losing effort, sophomore Parker Mitchell led the team with 17 points, splashing 3 triples from downtown.
“If everyone on the team played how [Mitchell] played, we would have won the game,” said Senior Anthony Politza. Since Richland played a zone, Parker jumped the gaps and was very successful.
On the bright side, This game did not matter at all. District 6 playoff seedings had already been announced, even though Tyrone has two more games left on their schedule.
Tyrone looks to bounce back from a two game losing streak this Thursday on senior night against Bald Eagle . Tip-off is at 7:30.
