Tyrone 2019 Volleyball Team played came together as a team and the result was the best season in school history.

Being their first away game of the season, the Lady Eagles were not on the top of their game and played a bit nervous against one of the toughest squads in the region. The result was a 3-0 loss on the road to a veteran Phillipsburg squad.

“I was definitely nervous to be blocking against Reese Hazelton, who is an incredible player… At first look, we seemed to be struggling against her, but after watching the film, I think we competed well.” said sophomore Elaina Gehlman.

In the first set, the Lady Eagles lost 17-25.

Staying consistent with their tough serving and continuing to put up a fight, the girls fought back with many long rallies, but the Mounties were ultimately too much for the Lady Eagles and took the victory in the second set 17-25.

In the final match, the Eagles lost 17-25 for the third time.

It was apparent that Tyrone was struggling with some mechanics, but they stayed positive and remained composed.

The Mounties utilized their outside hitter, Hazelton, as much as possible and their defensive specialists fought hard.

Fortunately for the Lady Eagles, they will get another opportunity against the Mounties at home on October 8.

“I think now that we know what Philipsburg can do, we will be more prepared for our next matchup against them.” said Gehlman.
