The Golden Eagles lost a close game against Chestnut Ridge, fueled by two Landon Hamer home runs and dominant Chestnut Ridge pitching.
Hamer led the game off, hitting a first-pitch home run that influenced the next four Tyrone batters to swing at the first pitch. Unfortunately, they did not see the same success, and Tyrone was only able to get 1 run on the board in the first inning.
The Lions quickly responded with a single from Justin Whysong and a triple off the fence that scored him. Another hit would drive in the second run for Chestnut Ridge and give them the 2-1 lead.
The second and third innings were quiet for both teams, but in the fourth, Tyrone was able to tie the game with another Landon Hamer home run.
In the fifth inning, Ashton Walk scored and gave Tyrone a 3-2 lead. Chestnut Ridge immediately responded with two runs of its own, strung timely hits together, and forced Coach Kevin Soelner to make a pitching change.
In the sixth, Brienn Jones forced a walk. He then advanced to third on 2 passed balls and scored on a Brandon McClure groundout to make the score 4-4.
Chestnut Ridge was able to follow this up with a 2-run double from Cale Harrison that scored 2. He later scored to make the score 7-4 going into the top of the seventh.
Tyrone had the strength of their order up and needed to get runners on base. Ashton Walk got on with an error and Owen Oakes singled to lead off the inning. Connor Mcclure got on by taking a ball off of his back. Walk scored a run on a groundout, and Lincoln Shirey drove in another run with a single and loaded the bases for Tyrone.
In the big moment, Tyrone was not able to shine as the next two batters got out and conceded their defeat to Chestnut Ridge 7-6.
Tyrone is now 9-5 and will take on Penn Cambria at Home on Tuesday, March 29 at 4pm.
