Tyrone won a hard fought road game on Friday against Mountain League opponent Bellefonte. Senior Anthony Politza paced the team with 22 points and also got contributions from Junior Alex Weaver and Sophomore Jake Meredith who each added 8.

The Eagles began the game flat, and after one quarter Bellefonte led by one point, 16-15. The Red Raiders were hustling, getting back on defense, and looked to avenge their early season loss to the Golden Eagles.

However, Tyrone fought back in the second quarter, although they still were not playing at the fullest potential. They took the lead into halftime 28-24.

Tyrone regrouped at halftime and came out firing on all cylinders in the third. Senior Anthony Politza also didn’t quite get going until the 3rd quarter. He got his buckets off layups and easy buckets where the Tyrone team exposed Bellefonte’s lack of defense.

They outscored their opponent 14-10 in the 3rd quarter, and finished the game strong, outscoring Bellefonte 31-17 in the second half for the win. All in all, Tyrone got the win, even after going through a very lack-luster third quarter.

This was a much needed win for the Golden Eagles. With this win they will remain a top contender to win the Mountain League. Clearfield and Penns valley currently lead the league, but with a shaky loss to Central for Clearfield, things may begin to stir up, and you could see Tyrone come out on top.

With two losses to Clearfield, they will need some help from other league opponents to win the Mountain League title.

Tyrone’s next game is also a must-win as they play Mountain League contender Bald Eagle on Wednesday.
