D6 AA Playoffs: Tyrone defeats Central Cambria 40-39 in overtime
The Tyrone Lady Eagles defeated Central Cambria in overtime last night in first round district six playoff action.
Jordyn Swogger’s left-handed layup gave Tyrone the game winning point with :28 seconds remaining set the final score at Tyrone 40, Central Cambria 39.
“I usually shoot my left-side layups with my right hand, but I didn’t think about it, I shot it with my left hand, and it went in,” said Swogger.
Tyrone presented a big challenge for the Lady Devils inside with the height and power of Cannistraci and Iuzzolino.
Freshman Alexis Cannistraci stepped up on defense and also scored 11 points for the Lady Eagles. Fellow freshman Kacey Engle finished with eight. Swogger had seven points for the Eagles.
“I just really wanted to win, I didn’t want it to be our last game of the season,” said Cannistraci.
Senior Emily Iuzzolino had 10 rebounds, while Cannistraci pulled down 7 boards including 2 in the last 10 seconds.
Tyrone went all out in the 3rd quarter, getting seven points from Cannistraci and a big 3-pointer from Swogger on an inside-out pas to carry the period 15-5.
Swogger said, “This was an intense game, I honestly was scared a lot of times this was going to be my last game.”
The team moves on to face Juniata Valley on Friday February 21st in Huntingdon at 6:00 pm.
The boys also play in Huntingdon on Friday. They will face Central at 7:30 pm.
