Tyrone Defeats Bellefonte Raiders
The Tyrone Golden Eagles were faced with unusual circumstances last Friday against the Bellefonte Red Raiders. Not only did they find themselves trailing in a game for the first time this season, but they had an ugly first quarter for the second game in a row.
With both teams unable to get on the board in the first quarter, Bellefonte drew first blood, scoring in the second quarter to put the Golden Eagles in a 7-0 hole.
Tyrone then responded, with quarterback Ashton Walk scoring in the second quarter on a 23-yard rushing touchdown. Shortly after, Walk threw a 10-yard passing touchdown to Tyrone junior Andrew Weaver, allowing Tyrone to gain the lead.
“I wanted to get the touchdown, so I dove for it. I’m glad I could help the team in coming back,” said Weaver.
Walk threw for three touchdowns and ran for another one, controlling the Eagle’s offense the whole night.
Along with a touchdown pass to Weaver and Crowell, Walk was able to connect with senior receiver Deegan Baldauf on a 32-yard bomb in the fourth quarter, putting the game out of reach.
“I knew I burnt the kid right off the bat, so I just waited for ash to roll out and give me a chance to make a play,” said Baldauf.
But the offense wasn’t the only thing clicking for the Eagle’s, as the Tyrone defense antagonized Bellefonte’s offense all night by racking up two interceptions, six sacks, and one forced fumble and recovery. The Eagle defense also held the Red Raiders to only 102 total yards, measly compared to the 317 yards racked up by the Eagle offense.
The Golden Eagles sealed a much-needed win over the Red Raiders. Making their record an astounding 4-0.
Tyrone is matched up against the Huntingdon Bearcats this Friday, September 23. The game will be played away at the Bearcats’ home field.
