Tyrone crumbles under Penns Valley pressure
Tyrone comes back fighting
Penns Valley boys with a record of 10-2 in the Mountain League, dismembered the boys of Tyrone on Friday night 63-36.
The game started out slowly for Tyrone, with only 6 points in the first quarter. Then it got worse as the Eagles were only able to manage two points in the second quarter. Of the 8 points scored in the half, 6 came from Anthony Politza who was guarded by 6 foot 6 defender Zack Engle of the Rams and 2 from senior Zack Soellner who scored early in the game.
At half time the score was 31-8 in favor of the Rams.
“It seemed like everything was going right for them… and opposite for us,” said sophomore guard Parker Mitchell.
The second half was a little more of a game with Tyrone scoring 28 points lead by a 10 point surge from Parker Mitchell in the second half. But the Eagles still lost the match-up 63-36.
Penn’s Valley’s Ben Alexander led all scorers with 31 of Penn’s Valleys 63 points.
“We had a poor offensive half which put us into a divet that we couldn’t overcome. Our second half was much better and we are all looking for redemption on Monday were we play PV again at home,”said Politza.
Tyrone currently is sitting at 3rd in the Mountain League standing behind Clearfield and Penns Valley.
“We knew these guys were a good team coming into this game. If we don’t come ready to play Monday, it will be another rough outing,” said Head Coach George Gripp.
Tyrone gets another shot at Penns Valley Monday night at home tip-off is at 7:30.
