Homecoming queen and court honored at halftime
Jordyn Swogger was crowned as the 2013 homecoming queen during halftime of the Tyrone vs. Penns Valley football game at Gray-Veterans field on Friday October 25th. Kathleen Beck was the Homecoming Princess, Alex Veit was named the first runner up and Lucy Raftery won 2nd runner-up honors.
Last year’s Queen Alyssa Hamer was present to pass on the crown to newly elected Homecoming Queen Jordyn Swogger.
All of the girls nominated enjoyed the experience.
“It was an honor to even be nominated… I was amazed that we were able to raise almost $800 dollars for charity,” said Lucy Raftery
Kathleen Beck said “It was great having Jared Beckwith as my escort. I hope the money goes to a great charity.”
The event was organized by math teacher and student council adviser Erica Martin.
The format changed this year from an all grade level court to just the senior class in order to better represent all of the student activities and sports in the school.
The girls were judged in several categories including a school wide student vote, personal interviews, donation can decorations and the amount of money raised for charity.
“It felt great [to win],” said Homecoming Queen Jordyn Swogger.
“I was so excited that I get to represent, not only my basketball team and the school, but the town of Tyrone in such a good way,” added Swogger.
The night only got better for Tyrone as they overcame a slow opening quarter and went on to beat Penns Valley 43-21.
