Rozick’s Greenhouse has provided the Tyrone community with quality vegetables for gardens, flowers, and other plants for over 40 years.
Co-owner Mike Rozick specializes in over 60 varieties of tomatoes and 40 varieties of peppers, some of which are dangerously hot.
Rozick’s favorite hot peppers include the Carolina Reaper, Trinidad Scorpion, Bhut jolokia, Chocolate Habanero, Thai Hot, Scotch Bonnet, Jalapeno, and Serrano.
According to Mike’s wife and co-owner Becky Rozick, people come from all over to purchase pepper plants because they carry many hard-to-find varieties.
Rozick’s dad first sparked Mike’s interest in gardening when he was a child, which led to the establishment of the business.
“When I was 16 I started selling plants out of a cold frame,” said Roziak.
Today Mike, Becky, and Mike’s brother Dennis offer vegetables, herbs, flowers, perennials, plants, and hanging baskets as well as their homemade sauerkraut in the winter.
All the Rozick’s plants start from seed and are grown locally at their greenhouse in Tyrone. They offer Easter flowers, mums, decorative cabbage and kale, and poinsettias.
People come from all around to purchase Mike’s vegetables and tomatoes.
Rozick’s grows many varieties of heirloom tomatoes, including Red & Pink Brandywine, Abraham Lincoln, Black Krim, Cherokee Purple, Pineapple, Rutgers, Amish paste, and many more types of tomatoes.
They also make homemade barrel sauerkraut in the winter.
The sauerkraut is a customer favorite and the length of time the kraut ferments determines how sour it becomes. It is naturally fermented, and the only ingredients are salt and cabbage.
They offer sauerkraut for sale at the greenhouse and some local stores. They strive to have sauerkraut all year round, but the most popular time to buy is around New Year’s.
Flowers are also a love of the Rozicks.
Dennis expanded the business to grow cut flowers for florists, calla lilies are his specialty.
Michael grows a variety of flowers, some specifically for pollinators and some as food source “host” plants for butterfly caterpillars.
They also offer many native as well as non-native perennials.
Rozick offers gorgeous poinsettias in multiple colors at Christmas, plus Christmas cactus in multiple colors.
At Easter, they offer tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, hydrangeas, and beautiful Dutch gardens in festive wicker baskets that have a lovely combination of Easter flowers.
For Mother’s Day, hanging baskets are their specialty with the popular million bells, fuschia, petunias, and ever-popular dipladenia, plus many more flower types available.
“[What we love about our business is] just growing. You look across there and see what we produce—these beautiful poinsettias. [Mike] likes being outside,” Becky Rozick said.
They also support many local fundraisers for the Boy Scouts, church groups, Catholic Daughters, and religious education.
“We also donate to other fundraisers to help increase their offerings,” Rozick said.
Rozick’s is located at 1567 Quarry Road in Tyrone. Their regular operating hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., Saturday, 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., and Sunday, 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. and winter hours are Monday-Friday 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and on statuary 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.
