The Tyrone Golden Eagles were coming off of a tough loss against Hollidaysburg on Friday, January 24th, and were looking to bounce back with a morale-boosting win over the Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers.
Tyrone easily took care of business as they breezed past the Mountaineers 71-38.
Senior Sam Crilly led Tyrone with 18 points, followed by Drew Escala with 11 and Trent Adams with 10.
It seemed like everybody on the Golden Eagle roster had a chance to score as well.
Coach Rhoades started subbing in reserves in the first half before the game got out of hand. He was anticipating a big lead so he decided to rotate in his depth for varsity experience.
With little drama on the court, the focus of the night was on Tyrone Head Coach Luke Rhoades, who earned his 300th career coaching win.
“It was a good all-around game from everybody, the bench was very impactful as well as the starters, and I think that really drove us to the outcome of the game. I’m pumped it was coaches’ 300th,” senior Landon Hamer said.
PO struggled around all aspects of the game. They only had one player to score over 10 points, couldn’t contain Tyrone’s shooters, and simply couldn’t hang with the Golden Eagles. This game was much like the story of the Mountaineers season. Their lack of roster depth is their biggest problem and it showed against Tyrone.
The Golden Eagles were already holding over a 20-point lead at halftime and didn’t take their foot off the pedal in the second half.
Tyrone finished the game playing very technically sound. They ran through offense, focused on their main keys on defense, and hit the key shots they needed to hit in their loss against the Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers.
With the bench players in the game, PO was still unable to produce much and only scored 38 points.
