Tyrone boys soccer improves to 6-5 with 2-1 win over Central
The second half of Tyrone’s season is in full swing and Tyrone started strong with a decisive 2-1 win on the road over Central on Tuesday, October 6.
Central has played on multiple fields over the past two years because of poor field conditions. Tyrone initially had difficulty adjusting to the conditions, but after several minutes the Golden Eagles seemed to get a feel for the turf and their touches and ball movement improved.
Tyrone possessed the ball for almost the entire game but nevertheless had a very hard time finishing around the net.
“I liked the ball movement throughout the game, but our touch was horrible. We need to work on that,” commented Head Coach Nick Miller.
At the 34:45 minute mark, Noah D’Angelo was finally able to finish a through ball from the midfield. D’Angelo was set up perfectly and with his speed he burnt the Central defense for an easy goal. Tyrone was up 1-0 after one half of play,
In the second half, Tyrone’s defense looked shaky like it has in past games. Central was able to take advantage with an elite shot from Central’s Caleb Stern.
Stern fired from near mid-field and the bullet found its target flying over Tyrone’s Politiza.
Tyrone regained possession and desperately moved the ball around Central’s net, but couldn’t finish.
Tyrone was finally able to seal the game when a Central defender used his hand to stop a shot from Amado Cordozo. D’Angelo converted the penalty kick and the 2-1 win was sealed.
