The Tyrone boys soccer team had a tough week, losing two close games to drop its record to 8-3.
They lost a close 1-0 defensive battle in the Eagle derby against Somerset. Both Golden Eagle squads had only one loss coming into the game.
“Overall, we played well, but we just need to focus on set pieces and finish the chances we have,” Caleb Posnett said.
Starting the first half, Tyrone retained possession in Somerset’s defensive third. The game was intense, yet the Tyrone Eagles maintained control of the play.
The Eagles had over double the passes compared to Somerset. Tyrone had 361 passing attempts compared to 177 by Somerset.
Tyrone remained playing strongly until Somerset found the back of the net off a corner. The Boys weren’t fazed, and they started back off, controlling the whole game.
Somerset then began to play more defensively, with only two strikers staying above the ball.
Tyrone closed out the first half down 1-0.
Starting back up in the second half, Tyrone was on the attacking side. Somerset didn’t catch a break from defending. Tyrone was relentless, and they sought to find the security of a win.
Tyrone was scoreless, and it carried throughout the remainder of the game. The time ticked down to zero, and the Tyrone Golden Eagles took home a loss.
A hard-fought loss comes with its wounds, but the Tyrone Boys learned key lessons that they will implement in future games.
Bald Eagle 2, Tyrone 1
The Golden Eagles continued their difficult schedule with a road game at Bald Eagle. The Eagles knew they had to keep their focus coming into the challenging game.
Throughout the first half, the Tyrone Eagles controlled the Bald Eagles with multiple shots on the goalkeeper in the game’s opening minutes.
Both teams were equal throughout the first half. Going into halftime, the Tyrone Eagles knew they would need to stay focused to find their first goal of the game.
At the start of the second half, Bald Eagle were searching hard for their first goal of the game.
As Tyrone controlled the Bald Eagle pressure, they could not stop the Bald Eagles from scoring on a breakaway in the 23rd minute.
However, minutes later, Bald Eagle found the back of the net again with 15 minutes left in the second half to make it 2-0.
However, the Tyrone Golden Eagles did not give up as sophomore Karter Bouklich found his fifth goal of the season, making the score 2-1 with minutes left in the game.
As time ran out, the Tyrone Eagles could not find a second goal to tie the game.
“Wins come and go, but we all remember the losses. The choice of putting a chip on your shoulder and continuing to learn from these mistakes will determine the result of our season,” Captain Tytus Novak said.
