Eli Woomer and Sam Crilly led the Golden Eagles over the Penns Valley Rams in dominating fashion with some hot outside shooting and good defensive rebounding.
Woomer was shooting the lights out of the gym as he tallied 8 threes on 10 attempts. Crilly had to work for his points as he found most on hard-fought drives to the basket and pull-up jumpers.
“It was a great win and we have to get ready for the next big game on Friday [against Johnstown],” junior Eli Woomer said.
Penns Valley’s Fletcher Ironside was held to a mere 9 points and was on the bench most of the game because he was in foul trouble. His Brother Carter Ironside led the Rams with 10 points while hitting 2 threes.
The first quarter started with a 10-0 Tyrone run causing the Rams to call a timeout and try to regroup.
Woomer, Crilly, and Escala added multiple 3-point baskets to gain a substantial lead going into the half 40-24.
The unsung hero of the night was senior Ashton Walk. He had over 10 key defensive rebounds and 6 assists that allowed Tyrone to continue to hold their lead and emerge victorious.
The second half was short-lived for the Golden Eagle starters. With only 1 minute left in the third quarter coach Rhoades started to put in some extra depth in the game because of the already 30-point lead that Sam Crilly and Eli Woomer formed.
The Golden Eagle bench was able to play some solid minutes to withhold their lead and close the game out in a 74-41 victory and improve their record to 13-3.
Tyrone plays the Undefeated Greater Johnstown Trojans at home on Friday 1/31 in an attempt to give them their first loss and boost some much-needed team morale to get ready for the playoffs.
