Tyrone boys basketball open with wins at Bellwood and Bellefonte
The Tyrone High School boys’ basketball team began the season with a record of 2-0 after playing the first two games of the season on the road.
The team traveled a few miles to Bellwood last Friday for a victory in the hardwood version of the backyard brawl. On Monday, they were able to get another blowout victory at Bellefonte.
At Bellwood, Tyrone gained a 68-47 win over the Blue Devils. The Eagles started out slow, leading by a score of only 9-8 after one period, but was able to take control of the game by the half.
Tyrone’s high scorer was senior Brandon Gripp, who scored 25 points and made 4 three pointers. Fellow senior Jordan Miller knocked down 3 three pointers and scored 13 points.
Senior Erik Wagner was able to pull down 7 rebounds and senior Dalton McKeehen grabbed 6. Coming off of the bench, juniors Shane Geis and Blake Brooks both made a three pointer each.
At Bellefonte, Tyrone was never seriously challenged and won by 34 points with a score of 87-53. Tyrone’s high scorers were Gripp with 24 and Miller with 20 as they both made 4 three pointers. Tyrone was leading at halftime 47-23 and they won the second half by ten points.
The team’s next game home opener will take place on Friday against Philipsburg.
