The Tyrone Golden Eagle Boys soccer team earned a 3-0 win against Philipsburg-Osceola on Thursday, taking home their second straight win of the season.
“Our game can be summed up by our performance in the second half. Our offense finally woke up in a huge way. Our defense stayed strong throughout the game. Another great team win that brought the energy we need for the remainder of the season,” Bellwood forward Noah Gulvas said.
The Tyrone boys haven’t started 2-0 in five years.
Over the summer, the team worked hard to improve and is determined to improve from last year’s record of 8-9-1.
After the 2-1 win over Huntingdon, the boys knew they needed to stay focused for their upcoming game against Philipsburg.
However, the Golden Eagles started the first half slowly. The score was still 0-0 at half, but Tyrone controlled the Mountaineers throughout with most of the action occuring in the Tyrone offensive zone.
Tyrone knew going into the second half, they needed to step it up. After halftime, the Golden Eagles brought the energy and aggression, looking for their first goal of the game.
The Eagles were still searching for their first goal until Gavin Tuskovich crossed the ball to Caleb Posnett. Posnett then sent the ball into the box, finding Karter Bokulich on the back post, which Bokulich capitalized on to give the Eagles the lead midway through the second half.
Within minutes, the Golden Eagles doubled their lead with a Tuskovich goal from wingback Karter Bokulich, who earned the assist with a well-placed pass through the Mountaineers’ defense.
Immediately after, the Eagles kept the pressure up and got a third goal with a well-placed shot into the right corner from Gulvas.
With 15 minutes left, the Golden Eagles’ defense had to focus up and finish out the game. The Mountaineers’ offense attempted to break through the focused defense of Miles Smearman, Grant Miller, and Cameron Nelson, but they were unable to do so.
“It was another team win. We had everybody contributing in different ways. After we overcame some first half nerves, we settled in and played our game in the second half and dominated the ball,” Head Coach Alex Bartlett said.
