Tyrone track and field traveled to Windber to compete in the 76th annual West Central Coaches Invitational on Friday, April 4th.
Twenty schools from across central Pennsyvaina were in attendance, so the competition was strong.
The Tyrone boys were led by sophomore Drew Irons, sophomore Tyler Connelly, and senior Aiden Detwiler. Junior Nicole Ramsey, sophomore Sarah Chichester, junior Claire Lehman, and senior Kylee Nelson led the way for the girls.
BOYS:
Irons led the scoring for the Tyrone boys team, winning the 200 meter with a time of 23.32, placing fourth in the 400, and he was a part of the 1600 meter relay that placed 5th.
Irons was Tyrone’s only first-place winner of the day.
Senior Aiden Detwiler placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:06.83 and was a part of the 3200-meter relay team with teammates senior Thomas Sutt, sophomore Tytus Novak, and senior Dante Novak that placed second.
Dante Novak also placed seventh in the 400-meter with a time of 53.72, and was a part of the 1600-meter relay.
Thomas Sutt placed sixth in the 3200 meter and placed eighth in the 1600 meter.
The Tyrone hurdle crew had a great day as sophomore Tyler Connelly placed second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.98, sophomore Kyler Suhoney placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.87, and junior Ashton Emigh placed 6th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.61.
In the jumps, sophomore Mason Emigh placed 5th in the triple jump with a jump of 41-1.25 and placed 8th in the long jump with a jump of 19-7.
Junior Eli Woomer placed 7th in the long jump with a jump of 19-7.5 and placed ninth in the triple jump.
Senior Cian Hockenberry placed 7th in the shotput with a throw of 40-9.25.
The 400-meter relay team of senior Austin Lucas, Tyler Connelly, Mason Emigh, and senior Seth Hoover placed third.
In the 100-meter Lucas and Hoover placed 8th and 9th.
Junior Nate (PR) Erickson placed 9th in both the 1600 meter and the 3200 meter.
GIRLS:
Junior Nicole Ramsey led the scoring for the Tyrone girls team, placing second in long jump, second in triple jump, and fourth in the 200-meter dash.
Senior Kylee Nelson placed first in javelin, with a throw of 113-1, and also placed tenth in high jump.
Junior Claire Lehman took first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.20.
Sophomore Sarah Chichester also had a good day, as she placed second in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 26.84, and third in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 13.30. She also was a part of the 1600-meter relay, which placed fourth overall, with teammates Alyssa Houck, Taylor Wrye, and Claire Lehman.
Freshman Lola Woomer placed second in the high jump, with a jump of 5-2, sixth in the long jump, and ninth in the 100-meter hurdles.
Sophomore Taylor Wrye placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.23, and sixth in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:40.12.
On the throwing side, sophomore Josie Dicken placed fourth in shotput with a throw of 29-3.25 and ninth in discus.
