Tiger Take Down
The Tyrone Golden Eagle football team marched into Tiger stadium last Friday night with nothing to lose and left everything they had on the field. The Golden Eagles battled hard the first half but were overwhelmed by the Tigers in the second half. The Eagles lost 41-14.
Tyrone started the night hot, scoring on their first offensive drive against the Tigers. Brandon Lucas scored on a quarterback keeper from the one yard line. The touchdown was set up by a great catch and run by Matt Clifton.
Multiple false start calls on the Eagles prior to the extra point attempt gave the Tigers a chance to block the extra point, but the Eagles led the game 6-0 early.
However the Tigers answered back quickly with a touchdown drive of their own. Martellecci punched the ball in himself from three yards out giving the Tigers a 7-6 lead after a successful extra point.
Both teams committed turnovers on their final drives of the first quarters keeping the score 7-6 Tigers.
The second quarter remained a defensive battle like the first.
The Tigers would be the first to score adding to their lead when Brozenich scooped up a Tyrone fumble returning it 54 yards for the score, extending their lead to 14-6. with less than 7 minutes remaining in the first half Tyrone cut the Tigers lead once again when Lucas found Gripp from 5 yards out making the score 14-13 Hollidaysburg.
The second half of the game was painful for the Eagles. The first offensive play by the Tigers in the third quarter ended with an explosive 59 yard by Paddock run for a touchdown making the score 21-13 after the extra point.
Tyrone could not catch a break when a a blocked punt by the Tigers turned into yet another touchdown extending their lead to 28-13 with 8:50 left in the third quarter.
The Eagles struggling offense was forced to punt yet again. The Tigers wasted no time going up even farther on Tyrone when Martellacci connected with Paddock for a 21 yard touchdown giving the Tigers a 34-13 lead with 2:35 left in the third quarter.
The Tigers delivered the final blow of the night with 9:27 left in the game when Martellacci broke free for a 38 yard run giving the Tigers a 41-13 lead which would hold true for the rest of the game.
The Eagles are now 2-6. Tyrone plays Penns Valley on Friday at home on senior night looking to keep their playoff hopes alive.
