Chapter 1: Samuel

I see the stars looking at me like I was a outcast. I was running since the day had begun. My companion was running with me who was also like me.

“Kalani, I think we lost them. Let’s take a breather.”

“Yeah, that’s good. I am tired.”

We sat down and pulled out our satchels of water and drank some.

She looked up at me and said, “Samuel why are we running.”

“You know that Kalani, we are being hunted.”

“Yes but what insanity drives them to hunt us.”

“From what I know is that King Arthur is still hunting us like his father did before him.” After that, I saw her face change like hatred was building inside her. I looked at her.

I said, “Hey do not hate because we only kill to survive.”

We sat there for a couple of minutes. We saw a group of moving people coming slowly at us. So we got up and starting running again, as we have for the past two days.

But by nightfall we ran into a small village. We stopped and acted as just regular travelers. We walked up to a small house on the outskirts of the village and knocked on the door. A woman stood there with a book in her hands.

“Hello, can we please have shelter for the night. We will do labor to pay it off,” Kalani said. The women wore a woven dress with curls in her hair. She was not real tall but not small just the normal size I thought.

The women looked at us for a sec and said, “ You can stay but I need some help organizing some books and papers that you will help me with.” She gestured us in and we walked through the doorway. It was a rusty home but with the lit fire in the main room made it feel homely.

I said, “you have a nice home here.”

“Thank you young man I do that best to keep it good.” Then Kalani walked in the room and her face was shocked. I walked in and saw what was there. There were papers everywhere and books on a desk o one of the sides of the main room. Kalani picked up one of the writings and looked at it like she didn’t care.

She gave it to me and said “so why do you write these writings and read so many books.”

“Well, darling, it is interesting to see the history and is nice to write about what you think and express.” Then right after that something hit me in the leg and I was on the ground in pain.

The women said, “Roderick, these are guest do not hurt them.”

I looked up and a tall man stood there with a nice size stick.

He said, “Oh I am so sorry then my wife did not tell me we were having guest tonight.” He held out a hand and help me up and into a chair. I am telling you my leg hurt but there have been worse before.

“I am so sorry again. I will bring in a slice of meat to put on that leg,” he said.

He left and the women came over to Kalani and said, “Well, now that is over let me show you where your room is.”

“That would be nice, miss.”

“Don’t call me ‘miss.’ My name is Delilah and I expect you to call me that.” She left the room and Kalani followed her.

I looked around the room and it felt nice and the fire was nice and warm. I looked down and a writing was laying there. I picked it up and started reading it. It said,

There layth in the valley, death sitteth.

Two armies await for the right to fight.

They taketh their stance as skylight admits.

Their hearts heavy like stone flying like kites.

The hearts of the people, strung from above.

The minds layth in fray, the love stands stead.

The people prayst for the hope of love.

What could be the cost for so much hatred?

The horns sounded in the deep, in the keep.

The voices of men fly from the valley.

The charge had begun, a huge clashing sweep.

Men lost their lives, was too huge for a tally.

Victory means death and visions of gore.

Love havst been defeated in war.

The title was “The War of Hearts Is What I Spoke Out Loud.” I looked up and saw Delilah standing there staring at me in wonder.

I said, “This is good what did you write this about.”

“Well, I am not just a writer and reading I sometimes teach to kids about this. Two kids actually made this and I kept it because it really touches people.”

Then Roddrick came with the meat and helped me put it on my knee.

“That should be mostly healed by morning I hope” he said. He kissed Delilah and went to bed I guessed.

I said, “Well, I need to go to bed I am really tired.”

She helped me up and to my room where there was a little piles of hay. Blankets lay on top of them and there were two.

Delilah said, “This is the best I could do hope it suits you guys tonight.”

“Yeah, it is fine,” said Kalani.

I said, “Good night, Delilah. I think we both need to get some sleep got to work tomorrow.” She left and shut the door behind her and I just sat there looking out the window. Kalani said do you think they will find us Samuel.

“No, I do not think so. The tracks would have been so hard to follow.” After that I layed down and fell asleep in the shadows of the room.

Chapter 2: Kalani

I woke up and saw Sammel still asleep in the bed of hay. I got up and thought of what to do it was early in the morning. So I got out of the room and started cleaning up the papers in the main room. When I was done I felt so tired and sat down by the barely burning hearth. I sat there for a while and I heard voices outside. I got up and walked to the window and there was they were. They had found us! I ran back to where Samuel was sleeping and hurried up and woke him.

He woke up and Amenity said, “What is it?”

“They are here we need to leave now before they find us.” He hurried and grabbed his bag and I helped him up.

“What about the lady we did nothing to repay her,” he said. “I already did I cleaned up all the books and papers this morning I said.” I grabbed my stuff then and went back out into the main room.

“Try to find a back door quick if they find us we are dead.” So I did was he told me and about a couple of minutes of looking around I found one.

I yelled, “Hey, hurry over here.” He came running over and as soon as we opened the back door I could hear knocking on the front door. We got out quietly and ran for tree cover. We got there and ran a little more away from the house and then slowed down. We put our hoods up and we walking on the outskirts of the town when we were yelled at. Three guys came up to us. They both looked manly but not as the left was way bigger.

The man on the right said, “What is your business here in this village.We are just humble travelers coming through this little village,” I said.

“You do not look like humble travelers,” he said. They started to pull out their swords and so did we.

Samuel said, “We do not want trouble so lower your weapons or die.” But the two guys did not lower them and I knew we had to finish this quick so more do not come. I had my bow ready with a arrow already drawn back. I assumed they were not going to back down so I released the arrow right into the left guys heart. He fell down and right then, Samuel stabbed the other man in the stomach and he fell down.

Then we ran for the main road while putting are weapons away. We got there none to soon we could hear voices yelling very loudly.

“There was no choice,” I said. “We need to head to north going right past camelot where King Arthur is.”

Kalani said, “If that is what me must do then let’s do it.”

So we headed off towards the great city of Camelot. But by the time it came around noon we started to see patrols coming and going on the big road. We had our hoods up and kept on walking with the other people. Then something caught my attention in the woods. It was a person deep in the woods with two guards on either side of her. We went slowly into the woods and hid behind the wood. I said “What are they doing.”

“I don’t know but I am going to find out.” As we got closer, I saw the lady had black clothes on. She had black hair and we somewhat straight. As we heard them talking and the lady said, “You will not attach or you will die.”

Then one of the men said, “No you are the one going to die Morgana.” Then out of nowhere she said this word and the men flew backwards in the air.

“I have heard that name before, Samuel.” It hit me she was the evil one wanting the throne of Camelot. I said, “We have to stop her you know what we have to do.” He nodded and we both came out behind the trees and she saw us.

He said, “Morgana, you’re wrong is too great, and your cause is not right. If you have been through what I have you, would know why we do what we do.”

“Morgana, we have been haunted ever since are home was destroyed we know,” I said. “We know what they do is wrong but sooner or later they will see the truth. If you are here to help them then I will have to kill you as well so say goodbye,” she said.

Before she could say the spell me and Samuel said one together which makes it stronger. She froze as the spell was to do. I went over the one of the men and say they were both still alive but hurt badly.

I said, “It is okay. We will not hurt you as long as you don’t hurt us.”

I used a healing spell on them but just to help deep wounds. I could see Samuel make sure that Morgana could not move and knew sometime the spell would wear off. Then we dragged them out to the clearing on the main road. We put them down so the patrols would be able to see them.

The one man said, “I thank you for your help even though you are druids.”

Samuel said “It is our duty to help the needed even though we are being hunted.”

After that we left them and headed back on our path to the city of Camelot. Darkness was coming as the sun was just setting on the horizon. We came across a laketown about a days walk to camelot. We stopped at the laketown and as we walked up to the front gate and two guards stood there.

They stopped us there and one of them said, “What is your business here in this laketown?”

“We are just weary travelers looking for a place to stay for the night,” I said.

He looked at us again and said, “Enter” and made it before the wall doors closed for the night. We got a room at a little inn at the town. I laid down as soon as I laid down and fell asleep so fast.

Chapter 3: Samuel

I woke up and I looked out the little window in the room we were staying in. Kalani was still sleeping and I knew she sometimes snored but got used to it. Ever since are home was destroyed we have been with each other to stay alive.

I remember that day like it happened yesterday. They attached in the morning didn’t even see them coming. They came and were killing recklessly. I didn’t know what to do I grabbed my things and grabbed my Kalani and got out of there. I have not seen my family since or hers.

From that point we kept running and found a place for a little while to rest. About a 6 months passed and we were found again and were on the run and that is All that I could remember. I got up and wrote a note that said, “Hey I am going on a walk and getting us some food.” I left it on the stand beside her and left. I walked down the rustic stairs to the bottom of the main room. There the inn keeper sat in the room.

He said, “Hello”.

I said, “Hello kind sir, I was wondering is there anywhere I can pick up a couple of silver pennies.”

“Well, I do not have any work for anyone right now. But I would go down to the docks and ask those fellows.” I left the inn and walked out into the street. People were doing their morning business here. This town was big enough it took me a while roaming the murky streets looking for the docks.

When I got there, there was a huge kings ship sitting there. It was magnificent and flags strown on the ship. I walked down to the main of the docks and a man was standing there looked like the captain.

I said, “Hello sir, I was wondering if I could work for some silver pennies.” He turned around to look at me he had brownish hair and was tallish and was wearing a cloak.

He said, “Well, hello, there I am William the captain of this fine ship.”

“Hello, I am Samuel,” I said.

He said, “If you want a job for a little while I suggest go to the top deck and you will see the shipmaster.”

So I said, “Thank you and left him up to the deck.”

I walked up the wooden bridge going over to the deck where I could see weapons in most places. I walked up to looked like the main man the shipmaster.

I said, “Hello I asked the captain if I could work for some silver pennies and sent me here.” He turned around and felt like I was in a dream. I said, “Brother is that you?”

He said, “Samuel, how did you survive the attack? I am so confused. I thought you got killed.”

I just hugged him and he did to me to.

He said, “I missed you brother. Tell me how did you escape?”

“Lets go somewhere there in not so many wondering ears Tintagel” I said.

He guided me into a little room when his quarters must have been. I sat down and so did he.

I said, “So when we got attach I was with Kalani.When the attackers came we were too far away from both of our families. By luck I guessed we had most of our possessions like my sword and spell book. She of course had her bow and food and we going to go on a trip the morning. Well before we left out of sight of our camp we saw the soldiers killing are people. We both decided to run for it was our best shot to live not knowing what happened to our families. From then we had found a little village to say for a couple of months then got found. We ran and had just lost them on the main road and we came here. So how did you survive the attack.”

He said, “Well when they attach we grabbed all we could and fought one way out and ran. We got to one of the port cities and found this ship. We all got a job with the captain and have been here since.”

“Wait. You keep saying we did other people survive” I said.

He got up and opened the door and said, “Wait here. Be right back.”

About five minutes the door opened again and Tintagel was standing there.

“To answer your question: yes, we survived.”

I stood up and there in front of me my mom and dad stood there.

I cried “Mom, dad I missed you so much.”

“Yes, we are sweetheart. Come here,” she said. She held out her arms and I could resist but hugging her.

She looked up at me and said, “How did you escape? I thought you didn’t make it.”

“I will let Tintagel tell you about that,” I said.

“Oh Samuel, I forgot to tell you when we came to the ship for the first time we all put our money together and bought this ship,” Tintagel said.

Then who is the captain then”.

“Well brother why don’t you go see you might be surprised.” I then walked with my family right up to the captain and said “Sir look here.” He looked around and I fully looked at his face. It hit me in a instance it was Kalani’s Father.

I said, “Thomas is that you.” He stood stunned that I knew his name then I saw his face changed.

He said “Samuel how are you here how are you alive.”

“We ran once we saw the attackers.”

“What do you mean we” he said.

“Come with me I need to show you something Sir thomas” I said. He walked with me but my family must have stayed on the ship. We got to the inn and walked up the rusty stairs. I opened the door to my room and Kalani was sitting there in her seat.

She said, “Where is the bread.”

“I brought something else” I said. Thomas walked in and stood there shocked and was crying.

Kalani was the same and said, “Dad is that you.” He said,

“It is me sweetheart come here.” She got up and started hugging him while crying it was kind of heart warming.

She said, “Samuel how did you find him.”

“I was looking for a job and I too found my family.” She seemed so surprised when something unexpected happen. Outside on the streets guards was running around and sirens were going off.

Thomas said, “Get your stuff now we need to get back to the boat before it is too late.” We grabbed our stuff and left the inn in a run. We follow thomas through the streets until we got to the harbor. We ran straight for the ship which it looked like it was ready to go.

Thomas got us on and said, “Let leave now get out of the town now go now.” All the men got to work and right before we could leave I could see men not regular soldiers coming down the streets. It was the Saxons they were taking the town.

I yelled, “Saxton’s are coming.” I took out my sword and Kalani took out her bow and arrows.

She said, “That wooden bridge needs to be lifted or they will board the ship.” So we had to do it. We went down to lift it up when one of them came up with a sword. I stood my ground and he sung at me. He stopped it and stabbed my sword right through his chest. Then more came and I kept fighting them. One with a hammer came and nailed me in the leg. I went down but Kalani came down shooting arrows killing all of them. We got the last of the bridge untied and I staggered up the bridge.

She said, “Are you ok you are bleeding a little”.

“I am fine for right just worry about getting out of here” I said. Once she left about five minutes later we were out of the towns waters gates. The sun set was shining so beautiful in the sky. A man in black stood in front of me and was holding a shovel. He smiled and hit me on the head and it hurt. Right then an arrow hit him right in his heart and he fell down to the ground. All things went black.

Chapter 4 Kalani

Samuel would not wake up so I check it he was still breathing. He was so I had some people take him to a bed to wait until he woke. He had a bump on his head which was not as big as I thought it should be. He looked like he got hit hard in the head. I walked up to the high deck with my father at the wheel.

I asked “Where are we going.” “Darling I think we are heading for the fields of Eskar. They will be a nice place to dock for a little where we can wait and see what happens next. The Saxons have made a army and have challenged Camelot. It is best to wait and see what happens.”

“Don’t you think those saxons with follow us and try to attach this ship” I said.

He said, “They can try but this is one of the fastest ships of this region. We also have like a small army on this ship that can run ship.”

“That does help doesn’t I think I am going to go see if Samuel is ok.” I left the deck and started walking on the lower deck and I ran into someone. He turned around and I knew who it was. It was Tintagel Samuels brother.

I said, “Sorry I ran into you and nice to see you after all this time.”

“Nice to meet you Kalani I remember you well” he said. He held out his hand to shake it and I took the chance and shook his hands. Then he said, “I have to get back to work or the Big man will yell me.” He turned back around yelling orders and I walked past him to go find Samuel. It took alittle time but I finally found him in a bed in the medical help part of the ship. Someone was standing in the room and it stumped me who it was.

She said, “Kalani it is so nice to see you, it has been along time.” As soon as she started taking I knew it had to be Samuel’s mother. When we lived in camp with them, she was always so nice to people including me.

I said, “Hello I missed seeing you and the rest of your family.”

“I want to thank you Kalani, you probably have saved my dear boys life many times” she said.

“I probably have but he has saved me a lot of times to.” She got up and hugged me. She looked straight at me and said, “Thankyou”. She headed out of the room after that. She shut the door behind her and I went over to him. I did a healing spell on his wound and he woke up instantly. He said, “Where am I and who shot that guy.”

“To answer you, you are on the ship and I am the one who shot the guy.”

“Well thank you then you probably saved my life there” he said. I said, “Wouldn’t be the first time. So how do you feel that man really got you in the head.”

“I am a little light headed but pretty good” he said.

“You want to get some fresh air with me.”

“Yeah I think that would be for the best it is stuffy in here” he said. So I helped him up and we walked together out into the lake air. It wasn’t as bad as the sea air.I said, “He lets go out over by the rail there.” He leaned up against the rail and said, “Thanks.” I looked out into the lake and it was so peaceful. This was the biggest lake in the Kingdom of Camelot. On the other side of the lake sat the city of Eleral. It was know as the lake city was built right on the lake but connected to land to. I hoped we would not have to go through there it is always so big. I did not think about the subject anymore just looking out into the water. I turned to look at Samuel and he had changed since we left our home. He was more of a man and more built. I still remembered when we first met.

It was in the woods he was sitting by a tree away from the camp. I of course my curiousness followed him to see where he was going. He leaned against a tree that was different from the others.

I went and said to him “Why are you all out here by yourself.” He said, “I come here to think. You could join my if you want.” Ever since that day we have been close friends and have had our backs since.

The wind started to pick up and I knew something was wrong. My dad yelled, “Everyone attach positions we have some company.

I yelled, “Where.”

He yelled, “Fellows it is a dragon be ready and get ready to fire those arrows. I had heard about dragons not many remanded and some were wise and reckless. But out of the clouds came a light shining figure. It was so beautiful but I knew that they were the most powerful.

Samuel said, “Kalani we need to do something we will get destroyed if he uses his fire.” But before long water buckets were all on the top deck ready for the dragon. I heard a loud roar. It was coming straight us. I knocked an arrow and held it firm. But as the dragon came closer is was slowing down. When it got not a firing distance away it stopped. It just flew in place like waiting to be shot at.

I stood up and said, “What do you want dragon.”

He said, “I am Humeral the last living dragon known of. I am here to speak with Kalani and Samuel.” I said, “We are here why do you want to talk to us.”

“I have been asked by Emryus to get help and you were the best and closest. There is a battle being fought right now and the life of Camelot is being threatened. Without both of your help, King Arthur will die and so will Emryus. The Saxons with morgana have brought on this destiny. As most of you know Emryus if the only hope for the druids and he is the future of them. So I come to ask you for you to help them in this time of need.” I was too shocked to move or think of what he just said.

I looked back at Samuel and he said, “Come back in a hours time and we will have are decision on this matter. The dragon left with haste in the other direction and I felt like my destiny was being put into action. Samuels family came beside him and my dad beside me. My dad said, “Lets talk about this in my quarters.” As we walked to his quarters he yelled, “Hey lads get back to work this ship won’t sail itself.” We made it in the big room under the top deck. I sat down but I could tell this was going to be hard to decide. The first person to talk was Tintagel.

He said, “ I do not know what to tell you guys but usually dragons don’t come ask people for help. I mean you heard what it said that Camelot needs your help.”

But then his mom said, “So Camelot needs help we just got back together as a family because of the king that needs saving. Why would you go help them for what they did to us.”

“Look mom they know not what they do is wrong but we must still do the right thing. I mean Emryus is the only hope for people like us and we need to show that we do good not evil” he said. I stood up and said I do agree with Samuel not matter what happens to us we need to do the right thing not matter what. From that moment I knew me and Samuels mind was set we were going to go help. After a little we left to go get are things and said good bye to our parents. Then not long came a sparkling figure coming out of the sky down to land right on the ship.

The Dragon said, “Well what is your decision.”

I spoke up and said, “We have agreed to come and help out for it is the right thing to do.”

He said, “That is a good decision young ones now come time is not with us.” Right before we were getting on the dragon Tintagel came out yelling for Samuel.

“Hey brother now that I healed your leg you should be able to fight. But now that you are of age and maybe at your last moments I wanted to give you this.” He had a staff in his hand which was carved and glowed at the top. “This is the staff of our ancestor. It was magic inside it and makes anyones magic who uses it more powerful” he said. He handed the staff to Samuel. Then Tintagel grabbed out of his pocket and handed it looked like a little book. He hugged him and said, “I will always love you brother no matter what happens.

Samuel said, “Me too I will miss you all but I knew when I was born I had a destiny and this must have been it.”

After that we got up on the dragon and yelled, “Goodbye.” With that the dragon flapped his wings and we were off. I could see the ship disappearing in the distance. Thinking that might be the last time I see them.

I sobbed but Samuel left me lay on his shoulders and him saying “It will be ok.”

Chapter 5 Samuel

We have been flying for about a quarter of a day. Kalani fell asleep and I was just thinking. Then before I could talk the dragon started talking to me.

He said, “Samuel I know that you are smart and strong but you will need that, to help you win this fight.”

“I know but why did you chose me and Kalani for this task. I mean we are not fearless. I fear that we will lose and Emryus will die” I said.

“Well child you can not have bravery or Courage if you are fearless. If you two together will be stronger together than you are along” he said. He went silent and Kalani woke up from her nap.

She said, “Samuel I am wondering what is that book your brother gave you.”

“Kalani ever since we went to the writers house I borrowed one of her blank books. I have been writing are life tale in it so that maybe I could make a book someday” I said. She laughed and kissed me on the check.

She said, “That is something remarkable and I think it is a good Idea.” After that she took out a book and started reading.

The dragon said, “Get ready be are coming in on the battle.” She put the door away and got here bow and arrows ready with the big knife in her pocket. As we came out of the cloud we could see a huge field with men all across it. There were two sides on each side of the the huge clearing. It looked like one side was losing and the soldiers were being pushed back. That side was on a cliff but the one road going up it was being taken fast. But of course we had to make a big entrance.

I yelled, “Whatever happens stay close to me.” She nodded her head in agreement.

Then the dragon said, “I am going to land on that little mound and going to make a big entrance to get noticed.” He made a huge roar that would have took the wool off a sheep if it would have been near it. All the fighting stopped and all the attention was on us. We landed and I could see the Saxon already advancing towards us.

We got off and I said, “Hey it is time we put are magic together for full power.” The dragon flew off with us standing there just two mighty and strong. The Saxons came running and yelling with swords and bows held high.

I said, “Put your hand on mine and lets see what this staff can do.” She did and the saxons got close and closer.

When they were in arrows reach we both yelled, “Lelos.” All the first line of Saxons coming at us flew backward either dead or knocked out.

Then she said, “Meoso.” Rocks flew upwards and a path was made straight through the small mountain. We walked down the path to the bottom. Then before we knew it out of the forest behind us about thirty Druids came to meet us.

The leader of them said, “We heard the commotion and thought we should help lead us you to.”

“We fight the saxons only no Camelot soldiers so lets bring the pain” Kalani said. So we fought and some used spells sometimes and held our ground. I looked over to see that the Camelot still needed help so I took the stand. I yelled, “Lets go over and help them out. Cut down every saxon you need to to get through. So we were on the move cutting down some saxons while making the way to the other side. I kept slashing down the men and more men filled their positions. We got to the other side and we lost some but we made it to help.

I told them “Stay here and help and we helped them hold their grounds. Me and Kalani cut down anyone that got in are way. There was still too many saxons that even we could not kill. We got back so far I ran into someone. I knew who it was it was Emryus.

He looked at me and said quietly to me and Kalani “So this is what my dragon brought to me for help.” I said, “We are Samuel and Kalani and we were the best for help.”

“I do have to say you both have the heart so my dragon chose well. Now do you want to get back to the battle or not” he said.

“Wait before we fight take this.” I handed him my book. I said, “If we live or not I want you to write what happened here and take it to the village Everal. There is a Writer there give it to her and say Samuel and Kalani want you to make this a book.” He took the book and said, “I will be gladly to do it.” Then we got back to the fight. About an hour of slashing and killing are men were none to many. We were losing so bad that we would be over run so soon. So A Idea came to my head a deadly one.

I said, “Kalani you know what we have to do to win this battle.”

“I do Samuel and if you will do it I will to.” He held our hands together and slashed are way to the middle of the battle.

She said, “I will miss you Samuel but we will save many.”

I said, “Kalani I will miss you and yes I hope we will be remembered.” We hugged then we both said this spell.

We yelled, “Luseroirs.”

Chapter 6 Emryus

A blinding explosion happened in the middle of the battle. All the Saxons were killed or running away. We had won the battle. I looked around for Samuel and Kalani and could not find them.

A druid came up to me and said, “Merlin it was them that saved us all but they sacrificed themselves.

Then Arthur came over to me and said, “Merlin what made the explosion.”

“It was the two druids that landed on the dragon they sacrificed themselves to save us” I said. From that moment and on his view had changed a little about the druids.

But After that battle I did go to that writers house. She did make it a book and Samuel and Kalani’s story was told throughout the world.

And that is how the tale of Kalani and Samuel came to be.
