Tyrone is back and so is the Dawg Pound.

That’s according to Tyrone senior and Dawg Pound president Jack Lewis, who hopes that this year the “Pound” will become the rowdiest and most fun student fan section in the area.

In previous years, the Dawg Pound has mainly focused on basketball season, but two weeks ago, the student section was in full force at the Bellwood game, and helped inspire the Eagle’s big win over their Backyard Brawl rivals.

Last Friday, a surprising number of students made the trip to the Cove to support the Eagles as they defeated the Central Dragons on the road.

This week, Pound organizers hope to see even more students show up at Gray Field for the game against Bishop Carroll.

“We’re just out here doing our job as spectators of the game. We want our team to win, and we’ll do everything in our power to make sure that happens, of course, while making sure we respect all rules and regulations of the referees,” said Lewis.

Even Tyrone Head Coach Jason Wilson has taken note of the increased student and fan support this year.

“It is great to see the atmosphere coming back to Tyrone football. These players are really feeding off of it and playing with excitement,” said Wilson.

Lewis promotes the pound, fellow senior Jayden Graham plans the pound themes, and senior Aaryanna Wright hypes up the pound during the game.

The Dawg Pound organizers encourage all students in grades 9-12 to come out to the games, get rowdy, and have fun.

“I’m really excited we brought back football Dawg Pounds! I encourage everyone to come out and be a part of this. We want this to be a community thing, not just seniors, not one or two friends, but everybody.” said senior Wright.

The Tyrone Golden Eagles hope to keep their win streak alive this Friday when they take on the Bishop Carroll Huskies at home, and the Dawg Pound will be there.

This Friday’s Dawg Pound theme is USA night. Organizers encourage everyone to wear their red, white, and blue, and come out and get loud for the Golden Eagles. Students will gather near the home concession stand at 6:45.

“It’s gonna be rowdy and fun and everybody better be there,” said Graham.
