The 4-3 Tyrone Golden Eagles will make the drive “up the mountain” to the 6-1 Penn Cambria Panthers for a great matchup this week.
Tyrone is coming off an explosive win over 5-2 Huntingdon, beating them 41-21.
Tyrone’s rushing attack was great last game, with Caleb Whitby running for 200 yards and 4 touchdowns. If Tyrone keeps this up throughout the coming weeks, their playoff hopes look good.
Penn Cambria also won last week, beating Chestnut Ridge by three scores, 28-7. Penn Cambria’s offense has been electric this year, averaging almost 39 points a game.
Tyrone and Penn Cambria have just two common opponents this season, Westmont Hilltop and Bald Eagle Area.
Tyrone beat both teams by a combined score of 70-20. Penn Cambria also won both games, fairing slightly better offensively than the Golden Eagles, but slightly worse defensively, winning both matchups by a combined score of 103- 38.
The Panthers have a strong passing attack featuring senior quarterback Brady Jones and senior wide receiver Blake Lilly.
Jones has thrown for 1066 yards this year with 13 touchdowns to just three interceptions, while Blake Lilly has hauled in 642 yards and 8 touchdowns receiving.
However, Penn Cambria is not a pass 0nly team. They also boast a formidable rushing attack, averaging 6.1 yards per carry.
The most important thing for the Golden Eagles to do is limit their turnovers. Turnovers played a big role in all three of Tyrone’s losses.
If Tyrone can limit turnovers, it will be a lot easier to stay in the game and score.
Penn Cambria has only had 7 interceptions this season, while the Golden Eagles have had 13. Five are from junior wide receiver and cornerback Mason Emigh.
The outcome of this game will play a huge factor in whether the Golden Eagles qualify for the postseason. They are currently just one game ahead of Phillipsburg-Osceola for the final playoff spot.
Phillipsburg also has a tough game this week, facing off against 7-0 Bishop McCort.
In week nine, the Eagles will face off against the Mounties, and a win against PC and a P-O loss to McCort would almost ensure Tyrone a playoff spot.
With both teams coming off a win, the game should be an electric atmosphere at Penn Cambria Memorial Stadium, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
