After a disappointing shutout last week, Tyrone is looking to get back into the win column against a tough Huntington opponent.
Huntington is coming off of a dominant 49-19 win against Central to make their record 5-1.
The Bearcats are led by senior running back Landon Erdman, who is currently averaging 110 yards per game and has tallied 4 touchdowns. Their second senior running back, Evan Edmiston, also has 294 rushing yards on the year and 6 touchdowns.
Huntington is a very run-heavy team; their junior quarterback, Reese Hughes, only has 266 passing yards on the year. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t an aerial threat; sophomore receiver Javaughn Dodson leads the Bearcats with 6 receptions for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Bearcats defense is the thing that is truly keeping them in the win column. They have held Bellwood and Bald Eagle to only 6 points in their wins over both.
Evan Edmiston is leading their defense with 57 tackles and 6 TFLs. Senior linebacker Dom Peruso follows close behind him with 51 tackles and 7 TFLs. The gritty Huntington defense has been able to grind out their opponents and allow the offense to have multiple scoring opportunities with 6 interceptions.
Although it may not show on the scoreboard, the Tyrone defense has been playing exceptionally well. They were able to hold a dominant Bishop Guilfoyle team to just 10 points in the first half. And other than an interception returned for a touchdown against Bellwood, they held the Blue Devils to 7 points in the first half.
The downfall of the past couple of games for the Golden Eagles has been their offense. They have scored just 6 points in 2 games. It is a combination of things; the offensive line is struggling to open up holes for running backs, and the skill players are struggling to get open on passes.
Tyrone still has time to fix these mistakes, but they need to win this game if they want to have a shot at making the district playoffs.
The Golden Eagles take on the Bearcats on Friday, 10/3, at 7pm. At home.
