Following last week’s high-scoring 50-37 loss to BG, the Golden Eagles will travel to Huntingdon to play the Bearcats.
Last year Tyrone was led by a phenomenal game by then-senior running back Brady Ronan, Tyrone dominated the Huntington Bearcats 39-7 at Gray Memorial Field.
Bearcats head coach Tim Lucko is fairly new to the school as this is only his second season at Huntingdon, as he coached for two years prior at Tussey Mountain hosting a career record of 9-22.
Huntingdon’s strength is running the ball. They have a giant front five and big runningbacks, such as juniors Evan Edmiston, Landon Erdman, and Elliot Guisler. Last week, Erdman led the backfield with 13 carries for 66 yards.
Erdman is a bruising 5’11’’ 205 pound back who will lower his shoulder and attempt to run over opposing defenses.
Occasionally quarterback Eric Mykut will call his own number as Huntingdon enjoys running read options.
Highlighting Lucko’s offense is a mixture of a cone formation having one running back on each side of the quarterback and another behind him along with other spread formations.
The Bearcats are 0-6, but they have had one of the hardest schedules in the LHAC, having to face teams like BG, Clearfield, Central, and Bellwood.
They gave Central a run last week, only losing by 10. Yet Huntingdon started strong, winning 13-6 at the end of the first half. Central then proceeded to have a big third quarter, scoring 16, and Huntingdon couldn’t keep up.
Tyrone’s run defense will be tested again as they have not been great against the run this season. Tyrone allowed 161 rushing yards last week against BG and 223 yards two weeks ago in the Backyard Brawl, Huntingdon will be looking to capitalize on this.
