The Look Ahead: Homestanding Eagles Head into Battle vs. the Lions

Each week of the season the Eagle Eye’s Kolby Cowher will preview the next week’s matchup.

The homestanding Tyrone Golden Eagles will confront the 8-1 Lions of Chestnut Ridge on Friday.

The Golden Eagles are 1-0 thus far on the homestand as they came out triumphant against the 2-7 Penns Valley Rams. It was a solid contest for Tyrone in nearly every aspect. The offense was clicking from the start as they tallied 21 points in the first half. The Tyrone defense was authoritative as well, relinquishing only six points to the Rams offense.

Chestnut Ridge has been dominant all season. The Lions aren’t just winning; they are just obliterating everybody in sight. Their only defeat was also their only considerably close match. Way back in week two, the Musselman Applemen, who are currently #7 in the state of West Virginia, were able to lay the hammer down on the Lions 35-23.

Perhaps the Golden Eagles are destined for another run in the postseason as they still have an adequate chance. A win on Friday would help out drastically and a loss would not exactly hinder the Eagles from making it into the bracket. That being said, the chief focus for Tyrone is their dual with Chestnut Ridge upon nightfall this Friday.

The Lion defense is having a monumental season. In week six, the Lions practically didn’t give up anything against Central; rather, it was their offense that surrendered two points to the Scarlet Dragons. Even last week against an outstanding Bellefonte offensive front, they only gave up 21 points en route to a 41-21 victory.

Chestnut Ridge has dominated their foes all over the place on the offensive side of things. The offense is big and tough up front, which has helped them to march down the field all season. Putting 40 points on the board is not a rare occurrence for the juggernaut that is the Chestnut Ridge offense.

The Lions are very good, to say the least. There’s no question that they will make a run in the AA bracket. It’s going to be hard for the Golden Eagles, but not impossible. Tyrone is fresh off a win and looks to defend its home turf at all cost.

There is a small possibility that this is Tyrone’s last opponent this season. The Eagles have not won the last game of the season since 1999. If this is their last, what better way to go out than a win on Senior Night in front their adoring fans? There’s no doubt a victory over Chestnut Ridge would be the Golden Eagles’ greatest conquest of the year.
