The Golden Eagles travel to Johnstown this Friday to take on the 0-1 Trojans. With both teams coming off of losses you can expect this to be a good game.
Even though Johnstown hasn’t won a game since October of 2019 when they beat Somerset 33-27, they have a new coaching staff and are getting better every game.
Evidence of their improvement was clear in week 1 when they lost to Forest Hills, 38-26. Forest Hills made it to the District 6 2A semi-final playoff game last year. The fact that they gave the Rangers a run last week indicates that this will not be an easy game for the Golden Eagles.
The Trojans are led by sophomore quarterback Julius Reed, who loves throwing the ball, and junior wideout Zymir Reed, led the team with seven receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
Kaleem Taylor followed with five receptions for 83 yards.
Johnstown will take their shots down the field, and test for the Tyrone defensive backs.
However, Tyrone may be down a starter in the secondary because starting safety Trent Adams was sidelined at practice this week due to an injury.
If Adams can’t go, senior Seth Hoover will move to free safety and the Eagles will bring senior Logan Rumberger in at strong safety.
The Trojan rushing attack is also led by Julius Reed who had 15 carries for 28 yards and two touchdowns. Joining him in the backfield is Stephen Hill-Goodman, but Goodman only had four carries for 20 yards
The Golden Eagle offense hopes to get a push from their offensive line and run the ball with Hoover.
Walk may be missing Adams in the passing game as well as the defensive backfield, as he hauled in three receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown. Senior kicker Dante Novak and sophomore Mason Emigh will rotate in at the third receiver spot.
Tyrone will also have to limit turnovers turnovers this week, which plagued them against Clearfield. Tyrone committed four turnovers against the Bison last week in their second half collapse.
“This game is going to be huge for us, we need to bounce back with a big game to get our season rolling, we also need to have people step up and fill in for Trent,” said Tyrone quarterback Ashton Walk.
Note to fans, anyone attending the game at Greater Johnstown on August 30TH will be required to enter through a security checkpoint that includes a scanning device.
Johnstown also enforces a bag policy that limits fans to small clutch purses, approximately the size of a hand, or 4.5″ x 6.5″ with or without a handle or strap. Diaper bags and medical bags are permitted after being properly searched by security.
The Golden Eagles hope to get back on track Friday, August 30th at Johnstown, kicking off at 7:00 PM.
