Following a game where the Golden Eagles scored 82 points and tied a 101-year-old record for points scored in a game, they will travel to face the Chestnut Ridge Lions in the new annual LHAC crossover matchup.
Tyrone is guaranteed a playoff berth, but who they play will be determined by this game. As a result, they will need to treat this as a playoff game. If they win, they will play at the winner of Forest Hills and Central. If they lose, they will travel to undefeated Penn Cambria. Last season the Golden Eagles lost to Penn Cambria in a hard-fought 32-28 loss in the district semi-finals.
“This game is the biggest of the year, we need to come in and start out hot. This will be the key to victory,” Tyrone quarterback Ashton Walk said.
Head Coach Max Shoemaker has coached the Lions for 17 straight years, with a cumulative record of 121-66. They are 4-5 this season.
Shoemaker calls a run-heavy offense as the Lions have 318 running attempts and only 102 passing attempts.
The Lion’s offense is very one-dimensional. It is run through the 6’0’’ 220-pound bruising back Haydan Webb, who has rushed for 1043 yards and 11 touchdowns on 189 carries.
Throwing the ball will be either senior Cale Harrison who has completed 45 of 85 attempts for 505 yards and two touchdowns and five interceptions who may be unavailable due to an injrury freshman Landyn Pincin has been filling in as he has only 15 attempts with five completions for 41 yards zero touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Golden Eagles run defense will be heavily tested again just as it has been numerous times this season. The last run-heavy offense Tyrone faced was the Huntingdon Bearcats, and they held them to 85 yards on 27 carries.
Tyrone’s offense has been on fire the last four games scoring 219 points and accumulating 1876 yards.
Senior running back Seth Hoover is also nearing the 1,000-yard mark, he has rushed for 825 yards and eight touchdowns. He has also ran for over 100 yards in three games including a 196-yard game last week against Penns Valley.
Quarterback Ashton Walk is also on the verge of breaking another record, the single-season passing yards record. Coach John Franco’s son Steve Franco currently holds the record with 2,598 yards, Walk has 2,375 yards with two more guaranteed games left to play.
