The Look Ahead: Bald Eagle Edition

The Eagles are on the road this week against 1-4 BEA

The undefeated Tyrone Golden Eagle football team will travel this Friday to face the Eagles of Bald Eagle Area.

The Golden Eagles are coming off a stretch of three blow out wins against some of the less talented teams on their schedule.

If previous records mean anything, this trend could continue this week as Bald Eagle’s only victory this season came at the expense of the winless Philipsburg Mounties.

However this season is uncharacteristic of the Bald Eagle football program, which usually performs very well. Unlike Tyrone’s last three opponents – Huntingdon, Philipsburg, and Bellefonte – Bald Eagle Area has a good athletic tradition and usually contends for the Mountain League championship.

Bald Eagle can run the ball, they average just under 200 rushing yards per game, and about 287 total yards per game.

Tyrone, on the other hand, averages 371 yards per contest. However, let’s not forget that Tyrone averages over 300 yards in the first half for the past three weeks.

Still, Bald Eagle has been churning out a respectable amount of yards. They should not be underestimated or overlooked.

So where is Bald Eagle lacking?

Turning those yards into points. Bald Eagle has scored only eight touchdowns this year, and six of them were against Philipsburg. Tyrone has scored 26 touchdowns this year, averaging over five per game. Bald Eagle just cannot find the end zone.

“Bald Eagle is tough. Their record might not show it, but they are,” Tyrone offensive line Coach Jeff Lechner said. “They have a really strong defensive line. We will have to stay low and come across the ball very quickly.”

However, the Bald Eagle defense is often too aggressive. Tyrone running back Aleic Hunter should be able to take advantage of mistakes for some big gains down the field.

Hunter is averaging a formidable 8.2 yards per carry.

Tyrone’s defense should have no trouble stopping Bald Eagle’s offense. The Golden Eagle defense has proved itself as a lockdown force so far this season.

Despite Bald Eagle’s size and aggressiveness, Tyrone should still roll through this week.

Prediction: Tyrone  35, Bald Eagle Area 7
