Tyrone sophomore Kaitlyn Rockwell struck out ten and had two hits, including a double, to lead the Lady Eagles to a 6-2 win over visiting Punxsutawney on April 17.
Freshman Sage Harris had two RBIs, and junior Ally McNelis also had two hits and drove in a run for the Lady Eagles.
Head Coach Hilary Soellner was happy with the girls’ performance.
“We played with heart and had an attack mindset at the plate,” Soellner said.
Punxsutawney got out to an early lead on an RBI single that scored the runner on third in the top of the second inning.
The Lady Eagles quickly responded with three runs in the bottom of the second inning, making it 3-1.
A single from senior Layna Dibert started the inning, followed by a double from junior Amariah Sprankle, advancing Dibert to third.
Freshman Sage Harris then hit a RBI double, scoring Sprankle. Another double from senior Sam Shaw scored Harris from second for the third run of the inning.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the third inning, when Tyrone scored again making the score 4-1, going into the top of the fourth.
The Lady Eagles finished by scoring two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, making the final score 6-2.
Tyrone was also very effective in the field, with no errors.
