The Lady Eagles fall to the Lady Bisons 2-1 in D6 playoff action
Underdog Eagles give Bisons a run in the first round of the playoffs.
The Lady Eagles girls soccer team fell to the Lady Bison 2-1 in the opening round of the District VI AA playoffs on Thursday, October 23rd.
The game was very tightly contested, with neither team finding the net in the first half.
Halfway through the second half, Tyrone freshman Tori Crabtree was able to put a ball past Bedford’s goalkeeper sophomore Katie Querry, giving the underdog Eagles a 1-0 lead.
However, the Lady Bisons soon answered with two goals, one from senior Alayna Hammond and the senior Megan Ooghe with 12 minutes left on clock.
The final 12 minutes went scoreless, and the Lady Bison received the victory.
“I am very proud of the girls and how hard they played. The last four games of the season we had to play with only one substitute and the girls pushed through and won some big games. The team came a long way this year and had a great run,” said assistant coach Tiffany Smith.
“Our girls fought a hard game and really made Bedford work for the win. Soccer is a sport where sometimes you play hard and things just do not fare the way you wish,” said Smith. “I truthfully feel this is what happened Thursday night. We were winning with 15 minutes left in the game. We just ran out of legs early and Bedford was able to capitalize on it.”
On Tuesday October 28th the Lady Bisons will travel to Somerset for round two. The winner of that game will then play in the District VI finals.
