Senior Nicole Ramey and junior Ezri Bumgarner were both satisfied with their results at the District Tennis Single Championships on September 22nd, 2025.
Ramsey won her first match against Lucia Yuhas from Forest Hills 6-0, 6-1. She then advanced to the quarterfinals.
“Whenever I went into the tournament, I expected myself to at least advance to the quarter finals. So I told myself to play the best I can so I can make it into the semifinals as I did the year previously,” Ramsey said.
Bumgarner lost her match against Lily Evan from Westmont 6-3, 6-1.
“Districts are a lot of fun and pressure; it keeps you on your toes, but the thought of winning is what drives me to success,” Bumgarner said.
In the quarterfinals, Ramsey won against the 3 seed from Westmont, 7-5, 6-1, which led her to the semifinals.
“With the weather conditions we had, I am very proud of how I played and was excited with the outcome of the match,” Ramsey said.
Ramsey played a great match in the semifinals against Lydia Paskowski from Central Cambria, but ended up losing 6,0, 6-3.
“I knew playing against Lydia was going to be very hard because she has much more experience, so I wasn’t upset when I lost. I gave it everything I could, and I left everything on the court,” Ramsey said.
Head varsity coach Randy Irvin is pleased with the day’s results and is hopeful for the district doubles.
“I think both Nicole and Ezri played extremely well at the District Singles Tournament. Nicole played awesome and made it to the Semifinals, losing a close match to the #1 seeded player [Lydia Paskowski] from Central Cambria. Ezri lost in a tough 1st round match but played very well. The girls played so well that they got seeded 3rd for the District Doubles Tournament,” Irvin said.
