History was made at the Tyrone tennis courts on Wednesday, as the Golden Eagles avoided going winless for the season with a 4-1 triumph over visiting Windber.
Like Tyrone, Windber came into the match without a win, so the pressure was on for both teams to avoid being the only winless team in the league.
Windber was forced to forfeit their third singles match and second doubles match, so Tyrone needed just one win to secure the team victory.
Fortunately, Tyrone did better than that, winning two of the three contested matches.
Senior Ethan Dasher won in the second singles match, and seniors Tyler Weston and Logan Harpster won in the first doubles match.
Dasher faced some resistance from Windber’s Nathaniel Kozar in his first set, but gritted it out for a 6-3 victory. The second set was a different story, as Dasher dominated 6-0 to close out the match.
“It was a great win to end the season,” Dasher said.
In the doubles match, Harpster and Weston won in straight sets over Windber’s Aaron Dick and Aiden Gerula, with scores of 6-0 and 6-2. It was Weston and Harpster’s fourth doubles win of the season.
“Windber couldn’t handle the heat from me and Ty guy,” senior Logan Harpster said.
Senior Quinn Cowher, junior Caden Harris, and freshman Rhys Rawlings all got their second wins of the season via forfeit.
“This was the easiest match in my life; these kids couldn’t compete with us,” senior superstar Quinn Cowher said.
The Golden Eagles return to the court on Thursday at 4 pm for their final match of the season at home against Somerset.
They will also compete in the district doubles championships next week.
