Teacher Of The Week: Mr. David Fernandes
Mr. Fernandes teaches art in elementary school. He is known for his wisdom, creativity, and effective teaching techniques. Between helping students learn and incorporating fun activities into his classroom, he is very enthusiastic and brings a smile to many students’ faces! Thank you for all you do Mr. Fernandes!

Eagle Eye: Why did you become a teacher?
David Fernandes: I love experiencing the enthusiasm and imagination of children, and helping them direct it into something creative.
EE: Why did you choose the subject you teach?
DF: Art has been a source of challenge and joy for me my whole life, and I want to share that with children.
EE: What’s your favorite thing about teaching at Tyrone?
DF: My fellow teachers are kind and brilliant. They are an inspiration to me.
EE: What are some of your favorite hobbies and interests?
DF: Making artwork, playing board games, and collecting toy robots.
EE: What is some good advice you’ve been given as a teacher?
DF: My mother once asked me to really listen to what I’m saying. That advice has helped me in teaching and throughout my life.
EE: What’s the hardest part of teaching and why?
DF: Sometimes it’s hard to get up so early.
EE: What are some jobs held before you got into teaching?
DF: I worked as a dishwasher for a while, and as an art instructor at an art camp.
EE: What is something that students might be surprised to find out about you?
DF: I enjoy making pieces of medieval armor.
EE: What’s your favorite movie?
DF: The Dark Crystal (1982)
EE: What is your spirit animal? Why?
DF: A turtle, because I feel like I’m always rushing and need to make myself slow down, sometimes. I also like to spend time alone now and then.
