TASD Announces Second Annual Color Blast Fun Run
The run will take place on May 6, 2017
Tyrone Area Elementary and Middle School will hold their second annual Tyrone Color Blast Fun Run on the TASD campus on May 6th, 2017.
Registration will begin at 10:00 am. and the Fun Run begins at 11:00 am.
Students will receive packets and information regarding the event in mid-February 2017. Students must obtain pledges for the Tyrone Color Blast prior to the event itself.
The Color Blast is a 5k walk/run without timing with a fun addition, throughout the run, participants will be covered in powders of all colors, leaving them covered in a barrage of different colors.
The powders are made of corn starch and various colors of food dye, all of which are completely non-toxic.
To get a better idea of what the event is all about, watch the attached video, created by The Eagle Eye for last year’s run.
“Walkers, runners, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, and people of all fitness and ability levels are encouraged to participate,” said event organizer Jessica Hetrick.
The race benefits the Tyrone Elementary and Middle School Positive Behavior Support Program. The Positive Behavior Support Program provides assemblies, reward days, and fun activities for students who excel academically and/or makes positive decisions.
There will be several heats so the serious runners can go first, followed by the recreational runners, and the last heat will be for walkers, dancers and children under 10. Since it is a fun run there will be no running clock, no places and no awards for top finishers.
Race organizers Jessica Hetrick and Kourtney Klock suggest that participants add their own color to the race by dressing for the occasion.
“Sunglasses are a definite must just to keep the powder out of your eyes. Everyone is welcome to wear tutus and crazy outfits to add to the fun, too,” said Hetrick. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that many people say is the most fun they’ve ever had exercising.”
After the run there will be a huge party with music, entertainment, raffles, food and beverages.
The cost of the run is $30.00. Participants can still register the day of the event but to be guaranteed a prize pack you must be preregistered.
Individuals or community groups that wish to participate by volunteering or becoming an official run sponsor should contact Jessica Hetrick at [email protected]. Sponsors will be recognized with a sign along the course.
