A seventh-grade student at Tyrone Area Middle School was a victim of a hit-and-run accident on her way to school this morning in Tyrone.
According to a post made this morning on the Tyrone Police Department Facebook page, the girl was said to have been struck at approximately 6:55 am, resulting in the temporary closure of Pennsylvania Ave between 15th and 16th St and West 16th Street from Pennsylvania Ave to Logan Ave.
Not much information has been disclosed at this time, but according to the Tyrone Police’s Facebook page, the victim was a juvenile female and was transported to UPMC Altoona and later flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
The Eagle Eye contacted the Tyrone police by phone, who said that they could not comment at this time because the investigation is ongoing.
There was some initial confusion about the vehicle involved.
The Tyrone police first stated on Facebook that the vehicle was believed to be a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, but that was later changed.
According to an updated post by the police, “The vehicle was not a silver Jeep Cherokee like witnesses had originally believed but we are asking the driver of the Jeep Cherokee to call us in regards to possibly witnessing the crash.”
The police also said that they believe they have located the striking vehicle and that the Pennsylvania State Police accident reconstruction team is on the scene.
Anyone with information concerning this crash investigation is asked to contact the Tyrone police at (814) 684-1364.
