TAHS Student Election Dominated By Trump

A mock election for all TAHS students enrolled in a social studies class was conducted on November 8th.

The online vote was set up by Tyrone social studies teacher Olivia Grugan, one of Tyrone’s civics teachers.  In addition to the president, students were asked who they would vote for Attorney General, Auditor General, President, Representative in Congress, Senator, State Treasurer, and Representative in the General Assembly.

The results of this survey were incredibly Republican, with 269 out of 412 students voting for Donald Trump.

Only 143 students voted against Trump, 67 of whom voted for Hillary Clinton.

Trump received 65.5% of the vote, with Clinton getting only 16.3% of the student vote.

In the actual Blair County vote, Trump received 37,224 votes (71.5%) to Hillary Clinton’s 13,093 votes (25.2%).

It should also be noted that every question favored the Republican candidates, winning with at least 60%.

Students were also polled on whether or not the justices of the Supreme Court, the Judges of the Supreme Court, as well as Magisterial District Judges should begin to be required to retire at the end of the calendar year that they become 75 years old. Students believed that they should be required, with 55.3% of students voting yes.
