TAHS hosts annual Career Expo for grades 9-12
All students in high school participated in this year’s career expo for a chance to plan their future.
Local businesses, colleges, technical schools, and military were all on hand to meet with students in grades 9-12 in the high school gym for the TAHS Career Fair on Thursday, October 17.
The annual event, coordinated by the high school guidance office, gives students the chance to speak with various professionals about their plans after high school.
Local businesses in attendance included DelGrosso’s Foods and Amusement Park, Tyrone Rotary Club, Tyrone Chamber of Commerce, Conner Heating & Cooling, ProCare Physical Therapy, Tyrone Hospital, Gardner’s Candies, HealthSouth Rehabilitation, Comcast Cable, Citizen’s Bank, Tyrone Daily Herald, Epworth Manor, Olivia Village, and G&R.
Colleges present were Mount Aloysius College, Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, and Penn State University.
Other post-secondary/technical schools represented were Triangle Tech, Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center, Altoona Beauty School, YTI Career Institute, DuBois Business College, Salon Professional Academy, South Hills School of Business and Technology, and the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology.
The governement and military branches were represented by the Tyrone Police Deptartment, the Pennsylvania State Police, the US Army and the US Navy.
“We’ve gotten positive feedback,” said the representative from the Navy when asked if they believe the expo will influence students’ life decisions. “It’s what we’re here to do, to help students obtain their goals.”
Representatives from HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center also agreed the career expo had an impact on students.
Adam Zook, a sophomore at Tyrone, seemed more than pleased with the turnout at the expo.
“It’s definitely beneficial to the students,” said Zook,”I guarantee someone’s been impacted by this.”
According to the presenters and the students, the expo was a success, not only for the students, but for the businesses, schools, and military branches as well.
