TAHS Cheerleaders open the 2015-16 competition season this weekend
This year’s Tyrone Varsity Cheerleading Squad will kick off their competitive schedule on Saturday, November 14 at Richland High School.
The competition begins at 9:00 am and Tyrone is scheduled to compete at 10:45 am. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for students.
The squad took a number of steps to improve themselves for competitions and are looking forward to the upcoming season.
Most importantly, the ladies participated in the Penn State Cheerleading Camp over the summer.
“I was so excited to learn more difficult stunts and get advice from the Penn State Cheerleaders,” said sophomore Laura Gunter.
The girls received the Top Team Award and the Outstanding Performance award at the camp.
A number of girls also started going to different gyms for more experience. The cheerleading squad went from one tumbler a season ago to seven tumblers this season.
“This is the first year we can actually go out there against the toughest teams as a tumbling team. A tumbling squad to me to me is a big deal because our team has shown dedication and went out and learned new skills to bring back to the mat,” said senior Beth Hunter.
The squad’s improvement has been noticed by many students and fans at the football games this fall.
“They have gotten a lot more creative with their stunts. Their level of difficulty has increased tremendously” said Senior student Chelsea Miller.
The squad is looking forward to a successful year and hope to place at Districts.
