TAHS Band Students Prepare for 2017 County Band Festival
The Tyrone High School concert band students will travel to Bishop Guilfoyle for the 2017 County Band Festival on Monday, October 16th and Tuesday, October 17th. The students that are attending the festival will have the honor and privilege to represent the Tyrone High School.
The eight high school musicians from Tyrone who will have the honor in participating in the festival are Rachel Robison, Derek Wilson, Karlie McCoy, Emily Detwiler, Nick DelBaggio, Andrea Ubaldi, Curtis Brenneman, and Gabe Loudenslager. The students were chosen by TAHS Band Director David Hock.
This year’s musical selections include Air For Band, Brighton Beach, Flourish For Wind Band, Melodious Thunk, Three Ayers From Gloucester.
The concert is on Tuesday, October 17 at 6:30 pm at Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School. The band students will wear the marching band uniforms of their schools for the performance to represent their school.
This year’s county band festival will be under the direction of guest conductor Dr. Eric Bush from Penn State University.
“Dr. Bush is an assistant director of bands at Penn State University. He works closely with the Blue Band, as well as pep bands for volleyball, basketball, and hockey. Additionally, he teaches undergraduate conducting, and directs concert bands, jazz combos, and the Inner Dimensions jazz ensemble,” said Hock.
The Blair County school districts that will participate in the festival are Tyrone, Bellwood Antis, Altoona, Spring Cove (Central), Claysburg Kimmel, and Hollidaysburg, Williamsburg, and Bishop Guilfoyle.
These Tyrone students will take part with the best young musicians in the county and will rehearse and perform at Bishop Guilfoyle High School.
