Over 100 Tyrone second graders brought life and excitement to the Tyrone Area High School Ag Shop on May 6, 7, and 9, learning about the life cycle of plants.
This eager bunch of students engaged in various educational activities focused on the world of plants. One of the highlights was the joyous reaction of the students as they immersed themselves in the activities planned by the high school students.
“I had a great time watching the students have fun during the activities. It was nice to see their hands shoot up when they had a question. I knew how much effort we all put into the event, and seeing their smiles made it all worth it,” sophomore Bailey Woomer said.
The event was the brainchild of the “Marigold Madness” FFA student committee.
The group planned and executed the event, working together to ensure its success. With three key objectives in mind, they aimed to educate young minds on the different parts of a plant, the life cycle of plants, and how to care for them.
The students began at the first station, where they completed colorful worksheets. Using crayons, the children eagerly identified and colored each part of the plant, gaining insight into their functions and significance.
Moving on to the second station, the students delved into the life cycle of plants. Through interactive activities, they learned to recognize and name the various stages of a plant’s growth.
In the final station, the budding botanists explored the essential requirements for plant growth.
With great excitement, the students planted their marigolds, a tangible symbol of their newfound knowledge and skills. Each student also received tags to personalize their flowers for Mother’s Day, spreading the joy and knowledge gained during this fun educational event.
